Well, I've been asked to contribute my SNOcam Snow Conditions vids this year to a blog. Unfortunately it doesn't look like the website, that the blog was to be on, will be up anytime soon.

In any case, I thought I better get some practice in as it's been a few years since doing the basic vids I started and so much has changed since then.
The big thing is that there are a bazillion pov videos online these days so I wont get away with uploading full runs or in the way I did it back in 2009.

I know this one is not going to cut it for what people will sit through but it's a start.
    Hell, it's 24hrs late anyway.

Would appreciate feedback and opinions of what you guys expect from a snow condition vid.
Just remember my vids are about providing you the footage so you can make up your mind, NOT my opinion of the conditions.

I like it. Can you add trail names/areas? I'm thinking of going to Thredbo for first time this year, so not familiar with the runs you are on.

Looks surprisingly good from those pics....

    G’day Spaz,
Good to see you starting up the snow report videos again.
When you were making your videos last time you picked a spot (top of snowgums) which you would measure with your tape , I think this in maybe some additional areas might give us a good idea of true snow depth throughout the resort.
In addition , providing hourly video updates will be fine when its not snowing, however when it is snowing Im sure everyone will agree that updates should be carried out every 5 mins.
There could be a beer or two in it for you when I get down there with piggy and others.

Nice one Spaz, I will be back sometime next week, will txt you. I like the actual sound. How about some kind of cranepolething maybe off a harness that looks down on you, and ahead. I keep thinking about getting those different angles, and having something stationary (relative) in view helps get rid of the queasy feeling some people can get with POV.

Have to remember you were wearing it though, ouch.

Good to see you back Spaz. Love the lack of music, seriously.

Good work. Get a real sense of the firm packed powder. [IMG]

Looks great up until the last couple of seconds when you see the size of the lift queue.

The skier in that Epic run is spellcheck's brother, skipig. It was the only run we did that day.

    Every 5min updates, ha! hahaha
I came down for a holiday and now I'm staying the season working a few jobs. It's not like in 2009 when I was cashed up and had my own business that relied on the marketing it got from through my videos. I'm making these in the time I have between work.
(my business needs an updated website to utilize the marketing potential).

telecrag, oh the poleCam saga. You deserve much credit for for the development ideas now used everywhere these days.
I was about to rig up one when I noticed Kosci chair carrying punters at 8:10 on tuesday. So I ended up just holding the camera, without a pole.

Trail names is going to be tricky since I'm trying to avoid putting it through an edit suite. There are quick ways - I just need to figure out the workflow.

Thanks for the comments, I'll PM CarveMan and post in the conditions thread.

I've been shooting stills for interschools the last two days so haven't had much of a chance to ride.
I'll try to get another done before Friday.

When a video is embedded from a vid platform like vimeo or youtube - the date of the footage is not apparent. With YouTube the video title remains visible which is useful but only if the title includes the date of the footage.

Vimeo does not provide the title (once playing) even with mouseover which is a pest.

So.. If you are going to do videos that are primarily about reporting current conditions and always host on Vimeo - consider a watermark footage date throughout the video. Include the year too.. VSG's nugget of gold of yours dug up from the past is 23 July but which year?

It was 08, or 09, I was there, I stopped half way down and rang a friend to tell them I was skiing freshies on the ST.

Bit like in the art scene, '78, 1778? 1878? 1678?

About 3 weeks after that video was taken Skipig (the guy in yellow) snapped his
collar bone, very inconsiderate considering he broke it 2 hours before I arrived in Thredbo.
