Is it likely the snow we had over the past week will be enough to keep the summit and maze open through the whole season? Or does the depth tend to go down fast if no new snow falls, closing runs throughout the season?

we often lose early snow, but this was an exceptionally good first snowfall.
there is certainly not enough to last the whole season without extra snowfall.
summit may well last with moderate top ups. most likely the maze will become unskiable soon without a good top up. (it could well recover later.) the maze tends to be officially open long even when it has become pretty poor.

but that's just my opinion. others may differ

    i don't have a crystal ball.

my GUESS is that if it doesn't snow between now and school hols then the maze would be pretty awful.

    My word it will be.
It’ll be patchy mogulled garbage and if it weren’t it’ll be bulletproof hardpack.

Maybe something looming around the 30th though.

Often the lift co choose not to run Eagle until school hols and/or scott & ruined are open.

The grapevine says that there is more to it this year - that there is a problem with the new lift. One story is that chairs were iced onto the line and that may have caused other issues.
Hopefully will be sorted soon. Chairs were all off the line yesterday, so there is progress at least.

It was tough for the intermediates yesterday with only Towers to ski. Ruined was closed. Not enough snow to groom village and run quality on Scot a challenge for low to mid intermediates. Not much value for lift price for a big slice of the intermediate skiers.
