I hate any cliche, especially when coming from someone (especially a news reader) who has no clue what they are talking about

I’ve been known to whip out the Yew!/blower pow/epic day/that was siiiiicccckkkk/gnarly as/its puking/tits deep and many other cringe worthy snow descriptors.

However, if they’re actually appropriate to the conditions then I really don’t care if anyone else thinks they’re cringe worthy. I’m winning :p

If you’re calling tits deep and it’s boots deep, then by all means, enjoy the cringe factor.

Skiing at jackson one year, I met a staff member who earned herself the nick name ‘tubesocks’ due to frequent exaggerated claims of tits deep LOL

So this has become a long list. The two I use are puking and powder. What am I meant to use instead?

Puking and Powder are absolutely perfect.
Use them! Enjoy them. Way more fun than having to use sleet and bulletproof polished marble.

Yeah, those descriptions have their day.

But Gnarly would not be appropriately used on a quality powder day. There needs to be an element of unpredictability eg. Windblown 50cm drifts interspersed with sheet ice.
Or lines with cliff bands etc

It's not an acceptable name for a chairlift in Australia. Let's just all call it what it is: the Guthega Quad, yeah?

I was surprised they actually named the lift just before the Yanks bought Perisher.

It's become such an American word that very few people these days use it except when referring to 'Murica bestowing their "Freedom" on some unfortunate third world nation via a spot of carpet bombing.

Probably just a girl thing. Nipples are less discussed than “tits”- at least with women in my demographic. I’ve used both. Although to be fair more often tits up/nip deep.

    agree. Although I really wouldn’t know... :p

"Powder" is a word used with one's own experience, its somewhat hilarious to listen to from a chairlift or on the mountain. Yesterday at 1pm on the summit chair, people underneath were very excited calling out "so powdery today, woohoo" it was actually wind scorched with a little wind blown over the top.
They were happy, that's all that counts I guess!

Even better is when you get that really thin layer of ice over the corn, maybe 2mm thick, but it has still softened underneath, and when you ski down it shatters and tinkles down beside you. Dunno if it has an official term, I've always called it creme brulee. Nearly as good as pow!
