a bit of basic detail might generate some more interest.

Given the exorbitant commissions Business brokers charge, seems a reasonable way to look for potential purchasers without the middle man.
I can also understand why someone might not want to disclose the details of their business for sale in a public forum...

Well location and name is a good place to start.
    I always laugh at this

The only thing guranteed on there is stock on hand and current invoices ... ie you're buying someones debt /stock.

No one is asking him for his business financials - just the kind of basic details you’d expect if an ad was placed on a public forum.

    Business name.
    Location.
What the business actually does/deals in (the description is rather vague)
    Website perhaps.

These things would help a person consider if this was something they might want to look deeper at or not.

Or you could send the bloke a PM.

Is there no end to what will get people's dander up? There are any number of reasons why a person would not want to publicise the details in an open forum. Have you ever looked at ads for businesses for sale?

    Not got my dander up.
Nor am I interested (therefore don’t care to send him a PM).

Just saying why I believe the majority of reply posts so far tend toward suspicion.

Yep. He is asking you to put $250k in his bank account for no reason, and without providing any information.

Lots of ads for the sale of businesses, particularly pre-internet, are equally unforthcoming. Perhaps he does not want to jeopardise supply contracts, or customers. Perhaps he does not want to alert competitors. Perhaps he is just shy. Or any number of possible explanations. Perhaps he is a scammer. But to conclude that he is scamming on the basis of him providing limited information shows commercial naivete.

I was just being nosey LOL

However, if I was intesrested in an opportunity, I would be cautious about pitential scams.

If I was genuinely interested in buying a house and saw an advert stating:

House for sale, roof included. $300k. Enquire by private message.

Then I’d probably completely ignore it

I’ve enquired and it’s looking promising,
I’ve always wanted to own a ski shop in Darwin and with it being so close to the indoor slopes of Dubai I really believe I’m onto a winner.
The place has an amazing new stock of Rossignol bandits and Salamon x-scream.
As soon as I can release the funds I will keep you all posted.
