Prompted by a most-concerned person on that fb gear page, I have found that I cannot remove my email address written with a sharpie pen.
I have tried metho, and I have tried turps, to negligible effect. I am open to ideas so as to keep you safe in the back country...
You are welcome to sand it (and thereby remove weight), tape over it, paint over it, write over the faded ink (which is what I would do). Or ignore it.
