Ah yes, the exclusive "if it doesn't have the steepest lines, **** off club". Not everyone wants that. I sure as hell couldn't ski that sort of thing.

But it doesn't invalidate other peoples choices that are chosen by a different criteria than you use. If I'm choosing a family holiday then the "**** me" lines get a weighting of 0. Same if I'm going for myself. If I'm not going to ski them, then they're irrelevant.

Your point is very well made.

If someone spouts off that a place like Big White or Sun Peaks is "the best resort in North America" or has "the best" terrain, or is "great for experts", by all means point out the obvious fallacy of such statements by way of comparison to other places. Also, I have no problem with people pointing out to other forum members who are advanced skiers that other places such as Jackson Hole would be good choices for their family ski holidays due to the excellent intermediate terrain they also have. I can think of a few of the regular Sun Peaks crew who would be very likely to enjoy the terrain at some other places much more than Sun Peaks.

But here's the thing: if you read the Sun Peaks thread it becomes obvious very quickly that many of those who choose to holiday there are doing so for reasons other than the terrain and the snow. They go back because of the friendships they have made which, for them, outweighs the benefits to be gained by experiencing other places and, to be honest, potentially better terrain and / or snow elsewhere. Once you understand that, you realise that the constant labelling of Sun Peaks as flat is not particularly useful or enlightening.

Conversely, one of my other pet hates is when people say that, for example, Big White is "better" than Whistler. By some criteria, it is, but to then cast a general aspersion over Whistler is just as ridiculous as an expert skier labelling Big White as crap because it is flat. For the record, IMO if you are a strong intermediate or advanced skier and you frequently fly in to Vancouver to go to interior BC resorts without having ever been to Whistler, you are doing yourself a massive disservice. It would be like flying to LA over and over again to go to Knott's Berry Farm without ever going to Disneyland!!

Anyway, it is 4 o'clock in the morning and I'm supposed to be asleep. Instead, this snow obsessed person is lying awake at night thinking about ski resorts as usual. Sometimes I wish my snow obsession would dissipate!

A lot of damage from the bush fires that went through a few years ago. Lots of regrowth is happening as well.

CW, its is a piss-take: Falls Creek is flat; Perisher Blue is all about the traversing; Thredbo where Astro can't get a car park; Buller, would be awesome if they got snow; Mt Hutt = Mt Shut. I'm sure Sun Peaks is a lovely place to ski and as absentskier points out, a few people here go there for the community of like minded people as much as the skiing. Me, well I like to go to different places; hence although I have a standing invitation to ski Tahoe with a bunch of friends, there are lots of places I haven't been that will get ticked off before I get back there. And I'm no expert skier but I dont want to ski green/blue cruisers all day long; sometimes I want to challenge my skills in technically difficult situations. And my favourite skiing is not resort based and usually involves the effort of earing your turns.

...and he of long memory... I can show you some in the Kiandra Sawyers Hill area that have not. And in the Namadgi NP. Heat was too intense. Sterilised soil, tubers and all, to a depth of 20 to 30cm in some cases. Read third para: http://www.auseco.com.au/index.asp?pagename=eco updates bushfires

I am so happy that many pauciflora do survive.

If wildfires are very intense (leaf consumption in crown fire), Eucalyptus delegatensis trees are killed, and species such as E. pauciflora and E. dalrympleana (Mountain Gum) can be either killed or be so badly damaged that only basal re-sprouting occurs. Your link can't spell pauciflora, a botanical sin. The image they used shows delegatensis which dies after fire to allow enough light for seedling establishment.

You call it a piss take, yet you seem to go well beyond that and take every opportunity you can to denigrate those choose to ski something you obviously consider beneath you. Interesting character statement.

    <chuckle>

I'm not going in to bat for anyone. I'm sure MS, MP, ODNT, cin & Taipan (and anyone else you may have missed) are quite capable of doing their own time at the crease. I know MS & Taipan both ski SP (both having residence there), but I have nfi who else has made it their preferred location. I have no idea how well they ski (apart from presumably a hell of a lot better than I do), and I have no idea what sort of runs SP has (except that it's 'flat' according to some). TBH, I don't think I've ever read more than a relatively few posts about anywhere in Canada or the US. What I do see is constant snide references (frequently from you) questioning not so much the location, but the character of those who choose such a location. If it's 'steep enough' for those that choose it, then so be it, but as has been pointed out, maybe that's not the primary criteria for many.

Whatever argument you have with those gentlemen in the bear pit (which seems to be the nub of the matter), it doesn't need to infect every snow related thread on the forums. There is a reason the bear pit was created; to keep that nonsense out of the rest of the forums. Most of us keep out of the bear pit precisely because of the low level vexatious provoking that seems to be a fixture of the place. I don't really care how much you poke and prod each other there. Just keep it out of the rest of the forum please.

    He doesn't have to.

You are the only one that seeks to score points all across the forums with your trolling & blind Freddy can see it.

If that's your puerile intent, then so be it,.... But don't try to pretend it's something done in good humour, because it clearly isn't.

Clearly you don't know what I think or mean,..... Nor are you ever likely to if this is your only response.

I do believe it was you who specifically mentioned MS along with a few others in this public discussion. If it really was just a bit of good natured fun about SP then I don't think there would have been any reason to specifically call out certain members of the SP crew as such. Leave the personal attacks to the BP please.
