    Hi Peanut, great to hear.

Glad he loved them and could progress on them. I wish I was there to see the joy on his face.
Sounds like a great family vacation.

Did you do the luge rides?
We've been going to QT for the past 20 years (nearly every year for our winter holidays).
Our lay day always included the luge rides for the kids & us (so much fun).
We also used to drive over to "Deer park heights" every visit as well. Was sad when they closed it!
Kids had names for some of the animals that they would see and feed each year.
    Family holidays.........great memories.

    Ha ha yeah
I had a gouge the size of the Grand Canyon in my bases- (thanks to Torpedo 7 for the nice P-Tex and tune)
On the other hand I just dropped the boys rentals and ran

He really was so proud of his skis and what he achieved on them. I tried to upload a video in my previous post, but it was too big. I’ll see if I can compress it once I’m home.

We wanted to do the luge, but hubby talked us out of it on the basis that the weather wasn’t looking great on the day we had off. Going to Fat Badgers for Pizza is our tradition. Mstr 10 loves mushrooms and loves ordering a Fun Guy pizza. We also discovered the aquatic centre and the hydroslides at Frankton last year, so we went back this year.

Definitely. We’re seriously thinking of going back in the summer as well. Mstr 10 becomes a Mstr 11 on NYE, and it would be really nice to go back in time for his birthday.

So are the airfares to get there at that time, as I discovered today. May have to reevaluate for some time in January.

If and when you go back, we did a lay day drive to Glenorchy last winter/spring. Daughter wanted to feed animals again (like when she was little visiting deer park heights).
There is a small little farm experience there to feed and meet a variety of farm animals.

The problem with 'paradise' - everyone wants to be there at once. ( l:-/)

..I hear (& like the sound of) Autumn outside of Easter/School hols.

Despite all the winter visits, I haven't yet done an Autumn in Arrotown - but the tourism pics always look so good at this time. One year!!

The problem with going outside of school holidays is that I’m a teacher and can’t get paid leave during school terms. I haven’t been at it long enough to get long service leave.

In Queenstown at the moment. Happy to say that conditions on the ground changed dramatically this afternoon. Looks like you’ve picked a great time to visit.

Snow started to fall around 1pm down to 1200m falling lower later in the day.

Around 10 to 15cm accumulation by last lift at the Remarkables. Hire cars thermometer read 4c at 9pm in Queenstown.

Cardrona and Remarkables are going to benefit most from this system as there is very little on the ground at Coronet Peak to build on, it will need a good 40cm+ to get going. Managed some crusty powder turns at the Remarkables this afternoon. Was enjoyable as I’ve been stuck predominantly on Green and Blue runs since I arrived Sunday, anything advanced was mostly icy.

If you get stuck at Invercargill the inbreeding is great down that way at this time of year.

Invers can deal with Qtwon diversions if necessary. Though more likely you'll be bused from chch.

That said, if conditions are bad in ZQN with a winter storm, then the wind down at IVC will potentially make WLG look placid.

The bus trip from Dunedin to Queenstown would be horrible. That's a shit drive (I do it all the time).

If you don't already have highly recommend one of these. We bough some for our recent snowy windy week at Thredbo and they are the goods.

Am currently chilling out in Wanaka after two very interesting days on Cardrona.

Wednesday 31/7: snow very nice & dry with drifts across the ‘groomed’ run. Quite blowy but visibility real tricky, due to both fog (20m in arvo) and fine snow sticking to goggles (wiping every 2-5 mins)!

In the end, staff closed runs early ~ 3:30pm. Oh yes chains on all cars up & down.

Thursday 1/8: Arrived late am to allow fog to clear. Chains only on 2wd! Yeah!

Skied pm: snow nice n dry, a few firmer patches on piste but still lots of drier wind blown areas/spindrift. By pm not a lot of left unskied in Captains Basin but the wider skis (118) happily surfed over the deeper areas.

Was still quite breezy early but eased later with some full on sun at close. Typical!
Great views towards QT & LORT country!

A good drive down in the RAV4. Good ploughing & gritting meant easy driving ~50k most way down.

Friday 2/8: Woke to heavy rain & strong winds across Lake W.
Carrdi & TC shut with 130k winds up top. They've had a couple cms overnight but I expect more by Tomorrow.

The ‘Scottish loch’ feel has eased to brighter skies with the odd sunny spell. Theres some snowy peaks visible now & then to the north.

    Next few days:
Based on forecasts, tomorrow looks fairly wild up top, possibly Sunday too - might risk a ‘dad- only’ trip either Sunday or Monday as this big system easy.
Looks like Tuesday might the first (only) mildish family-friendly day to ski. Wed, our last - weather could be returning?

If coming over, rug up, be flexible with days, be prepared to leave kids in town on the wilder days and tag team with one’s beloved? Skiing pm while weather (early fog) clears can help.
    Keep fatter skis handy too!

As I type the sun is peaking out - lets hope Sunday is ok?

It sort of feels like we helped to break the ‘snow drought’! (Not such a bad thing!) ( l;-D)

(Sorry trouble attaching pics! I ‘love’ my I6!!)

Fwiw I'm Planning to head up to Cardi tomorrow (yes Wanaka based) - tempted to do TC but prefer Cards when skiing Braille as I sort of know the lay out and feel when viz sucks!

Currently the stars are out above Wanaka so I remain naively optimistic. ( l:-/)

Hoping for a nice dump of fresh O/N - maybe too much to expect when I'm heading home to a possible OziSnowmageddon??
