My observation is snowy hydro have redone the snow depth / lake depth calculators again, and made it even worse:( They had a good site for around 5 years, easy to use and look at, and easy to see weekly depths. Last year they changed it to a more unfriendly format. Now it is changed again, and even worse. The colours are not great, and really buggy trying to get the cursor to highlight the weekly readings.

The front deck of our lodge at Perisher (maybe 10cm) this morning. Spencer’s is a couple of KM’s away and a little bit high.
Our lodge elevation is 1,800 metres (approx). I’m not sure what Spencer’s elevation is at.

From Snowy Hydro - 77 cm on June 1st 2000 at Spencers -1830 m. 70 cm at deep Ck at 1600m and 54cm at 3 Mile Dam will be a useful comparison for the 1500 m levels. This year it will be Thurs 29th May but they could go early, who knows. Best start for 19 years... W

Last year they did not regularly measure on thursdays. The day of the week fluctuated, sometimes tuesday, sometimes wednesday, often thursday. Often there a delay before it was posted on the website as well.

I' m going with 78 to beat 2000 if it is taken tomorrow. As the sun has not been out and temps are in negs it shouldn't have compacted much yet. Should have got a bit more snow with that SW flow in the end that didn't get to the resorts.

So often I see poor info design and the snowy depth calculator compare years lists are incomplete. Poor project management - should not be live.

When I was driving around up there during that event (In a fully set up 100 series Landcruiser) I noticed Guthega side seemed to have more snow as it was blowing off the main range.

Still no data. Surely they got some last week. Appeared to be significant consolidation over the weekend.

Seems like they made it to Spencers today, 71.3cm. Think this is best opening season since 2000 when 73.8cm. 1977 and 1981 very similar, but dwarfed by 1968 (162cm 5th June), 1962 (102cm 28 May) and 1960 (201cm 16 May!)

Take a look at 60, 64 and 68. As decent a decade as there was.

From memory, 64 was the year that they opened the chair from Thredbo Valley to Charlottes. Just bad luck as there was so much snow and bad weather the chair lasted only 2 seasons before being abandoned.....

I’ve read stories about one of those big years where there was a metre of snow covering the road to Cooma.

Shows you how important a good start to the season can be. 1960 base only increased by 1 metre after initial storm, but went down historically as one of the great seasons. I have to say I am now way more optimistic about 2019 after two very very good seasons in a row. Regular top ups, cold nights and minimal rain is all I'm asking for now.
