Yes we have quite a number of separate moderate explosions , maybe enough to make 0.5c difference at the correct flight level ..

    It’s in: 222.4cm at Spencer’s Creek.

@Infinity Dawn - pretty damn close with an estimate of 222. You are this week’s lucky winner.

Interesting to note - August 22 last year the peak was 224.6cm. Just a smidgen above this year

First time we have had over 2m for three years in a row, since 90-92.

Reading the weather forums I get the feeling yes. Seems we are a reasonable chance to see some more good snowfalls but not until after some warmer days a little way into September. Combined with the days getting longer my guess is that'll kick start enough thaw to make peak depth unlikely after the next good snow - you know the random dump we inevitably get around mid September. Working in our favour is there still seems to be some light snowfalls on the radar over the next week or two so may that'll keep the cover in tact ready for that next good dump.

The conservation of the snowpack may be better than in recent years if the SSW eventuates. Going off the 2002 .

Here's hoping, I'd like to cash in some flexi leave after school holidays for a wander and a few turns up high. Will anyway later in October but the more the better!

Funny you should say that as the sw or ssw wind that we received this morning would have definitely caused some wind scour at the Spencer's site today. Would have been a higher number otherwise...

Odd, the 222cm on August 22nd was after the last snow and nothing has fallen since then, unless they got out early today and picked up last nights 5cm or so in the reading. Perhaps some of last Wednesday nights fresh snow blew in during the Thursday as well. Anyway, peak depth and 2018 eclipsed (at 1800m at least)!

Next target, knock off 2017s peak depth..... then 2000s.... then ???

@robbo mcs "predicted" this the other day - that there would be a weird increase due to wind driven snow.

Interesting to note - Spencer's creek was the only measuring location to register an increase. Deep creek and Three mile dam are all lower than the week prior

I feel that there was more snow at Eyre last Saturday than there was on Thursday, so I would say that the windblown and overnight falls has helped us over the line this week

Have these updated for this week yet? Last measurement still reading from August 22nd so the decrease we're seeing pmay be due to the second half of last weeks system bringing more rain than snow at lower elevations?

I was just saying to @SMSkier today that at Spencers altitude my opinion is that the current depth is more than the peak of 2018 (225cm), but less than the 2017 peak (241cm). So 228cm seems right to me;)

If you were anywhere near the main range on Friday you would have witnessed the large variability in blown snow. Particularly in the gullies and valleys.
It was very light & dry so deposits were in constant movement with wind direction.

    212.2cm is my guess.

A bit of melt in westerly winds till Thursday but with a firm base up high (at least until today) along with a few cm last night, only a fairly minor decrease IMO.

Staying at North Perisher, the thing that has struck me and others staying in the lodge, is the significance lack of flow in the creek for this time of year.
The thaw hasn’t started in earnest yet. IMO

There has been around 8-10cm fall at spencers height since the last read. It has been warm, but only minimal melt, and the snowpack is consolidated. So I think probably a relatively neutral at 1850m. More of a loss in the resort at lower altitudes, particularly 1650-1750m
