Not a great deal in the city right now, but the roads have a nice wet gleam to them.

It rained in the Eastern 'burbs of Sydney today. It wasn't even enough to register in the Sydney metro stations, but stone the bloody crows; I saw it spit water from the sky for about half an hour this arvo...

I went up to Mt Wellington in Hobart yesterday and froze in light rain, temp was 8 degree. It was 14 in town at the same time. Just a few drops around this morning. Hope it's not too wet at Port Arthur today.

20mm odd at Dubbo. Think that is the most since March. Won't go far but looks like a bit more coming later in the week.

just looked at the AWS , Mount Boyce has only recorded 35mm since 11/6. median would have it around 150mm .

Only about 12mm since the same date down here. Farking dry. Sundays "rain" wasnt enough to register.

Thunderstorms this afternoon apparently, I'm not seeing it for down here but might get a few drops further up.

Captain's flat radar lighting up as it cross the GDR. I think there's a reasonable chance.

Yep, winds aloft will see to that.
There's plenty of vertical shear/Instability in to too.

    what??
We have a joke in this household about storms and 3pm. They always arrive right on bell time.
In the old days I would walk around with an umbrella. Now I just make the daughter walk home and cop the rain. If they are too cool for a raincoat....

anyways . You can see the southerly around Bega way. The edge of the westerly bashing into that southerly will be the spot.

Yep, but take into consideration both variables. Vertical shear can amplify CAPE.
CAPE is kinda there today, it's not fantastic for development but there looks to be enough with some good vert shear.

CAPE is the potential energy that is there, regardless of if storms are present or not. It's not a reliable indicator of whether storms will trigger or not (although a higher CAPE is generally easier to trigger) but it's a really good indication of the amount of energy available should storms eventuate. Long story short - Regardless of CAPE you need to do some work to get into positive buoyancy and get instability, but a high CAPE value gives you better fireworks should that happen.

Some towers going up to the west of me.
Line looks thin on radar. Though I feel with the change we may get some love. (if the timing is good)

Regarding CAPE also look at the soundings at how high the EL ( Equilibrium Level ) is. Shows the neutral bouyancy level- maximum upper cloud level.
