45 here in The Gutter.
Monthly climate update is out.
December temperatures are likely to be warmer than average for southern Australia, while rainfall is likely to be above average across southeast Queensland and northeast NSW, parts of the interior and southwestern Australia.
The summer outlook indicates below-average rainfall is likely across the northwest and Cape York Peninsula, and wetter across parts of the east. The daytime temperature outlook is patchy, with warmer days likely in parts of the west and north, while parts of the southeast are likely to be cooler. Overnight temperatures are likely to be warmer across most of the country except the southeast.
Current climate influences include a combination of a strong El Niño in the Pacific, a decaying positive Indian Ocean Dipole, and very warm Indian Ocean temperatures. (See the climate influences section for more information).
December doesn't look too extreme for VIC.
Still hot here at Thomastown, even though its a southerly.
I'm hoping they are right that summer won't be extreme for us.
Temps jumped up after the initial cool change
But it's just cooled down again.
The hottest November day is a good chance of being tomorrow in Sydney its not going to cool down tonight

Great orange sunset tonight.

DP looks a bit so so as well.
If the wind gets up, yeah , fires might be a worry.
I dunno if it's cos of the hot weather but there's an explosion of flying ants tonight!
Buggers are attracted to lights, land on the fly screens, shed their wings and crawl inside.
Open a door and there's a squadron assault.
Close the windows to avoid an invasion but no ventilation!
Woken at 1am to storms, woken again at 6am to more storms. This has already been a good day.
Was very nice to wake to this morning, Distant rumbling. Not much rain to speak of though, hardly enough to wet the ground.
The 1am storm had some serious consistent light.
It was a beauty. Pity it was absolutely dry.
Reckon it poured for about 3 minutes around 7am at our place, bone dry again now.

Lighting strike caused a tip fire at Somerton:
Apparently gonna burn all day. They're bombing it with the chopper
Not good for the fires.

Getting a bit heavier now. Garden getting a reasonable drink.
"Official" high for Sydney 40.9
can see the progress of the southerly change clearly on Himawari
22 degrees at Nowra. Bring it on.

zoom and play
Interesting how in greater Sydney it was mostly a quick whack and gone by dinner. Similar (though 6-10C less) to the Jan 2013 mega heat day (ie 48C). It too was a fairly quick peak before a fast plummet.
Do these trough generated heatwave - with strong winds - usually suck up a southerly buster as part of the overall system?
Snow for Baw Baw and Buller on Thursday?
There's a chance. EC suggests not quite cold enough, but GFS looks a little cooler.
Looks frikken hot for the coast again.
Bring it on.
Look at that temperature gradient.
I want snow falling at Buller at same time 40deg in Sydney.
(At least then we'll know what it takes to get snow at Buller...)
What happens when the blue line touches the red line
is that the end of it all?
Do we cease to exist?
Just don't let the streams cross...
Very brief warm spell tomorrow before a strong change, then some nice cool showery weather until the end of the week. Not complaining.
Winds could be a bit nasty with that change.
