Cool change just arrived in Richmond. Stinking hot as I walked out onto St Andrews Pl 10min ago. Cooling breeze on the platform at Richmond station.

Felt surprisingly comfortable in Dubbo for the last few days even though maximums were 34-35. Wondering why i seem to have calibrated quickly to summer. Walking around the house in minimal gear - I love this shit.

Don't worry too much , the weather bureau said ( weeks ago) is going to be a cool and wet spring. All good.

Still looking troughy for much of Vic and inland NSW from about Friday onwards. I wasn't convinced earlier but now looks good. Will obviously be hit and miss rain wise but hopefully should be interesting.

If only we could forecast the dynamics of the Indian Ocean with perfect accuracy six weeks in advance.

BOM's 4 day chart for NSW for Sunday looks a bit ugly. How much rain and will it clear by monday?

    Where abouts in NSW?
Looks possibly stormy through central regions, but the coastal strip looks largely ok at this stage.

That BOM 20% chance exceeding medium rainfall map for October is a big call and if it comes off is pretty serious.

    Correct me if I'm wrong.
However don't most decent Victorian rain events come from old cyclones that develop in the Indian ocean...sweep down around a large ridged high near Qld and bring decent rain?... That can change a season quite easily?
How can a model, model that sort of occurrence?

IMO indian ocean TCs have their moisture usually miss victoria. If they hit the top end, then we'll usually see something out of it though.
Most of our summer rain is from troughs down the eastern seaboard though as well as some frontal systems.

Pretty much, although going back like 5 years now we were absolutely smashed by storms all spring and summer and got a dumping of rainfall. I keep wishing for that kind of summer, but troughs like the one that just sat over us on the weekend that come from the center of the country are no good.

Looks like another roller-coaster ride next week. Rainfall on the weekend has been downgraded, a cool start to the week, and then possibly another hairdryer to finish it off. EC forecast is particularly ugly for 16th Oct with the dome of heat over inland WA being advected into our region.

    Hurry up La Nina.

How much we get on the weekend is entirely dependent upon where the thunderstorms occur IMO

Saturday looks particularly active, Sunday looks interesting for around the bay.

I figure the wandering hot pool will be a reoccurring pattern at 7 to 10 day intervals until /if we get the arrival of the Northern wet...I think we need to get used to this in the SE as our variation of the "build up."

I tend to agree. But I think we'll still get a couple of bursts of polar modified air between now and Christmas. November-December 2006 being a good example of this.

Team Bears are hearing of Godzilla like event...

maybe some kind person can describe the weather pattern leading up to 1939 Vic fires cos there is some discussion that this fire season could potentially be the worst we have seen for some time...

Lets not get too concerned just yet. Last 2 summers were predicted to be hot, dry and with very high fire risk but ended up not too bad.
Yes ,this has been a bad start but i will wait and see how the next 2 months progress.

its having a go out there.
    Certainly has that stormy feel.
Will be interesting to see what those cells popping up W of Ballarat will do and if they make it through the Macedon Force field, we might get a rumble later this evening.
    Fingers crossed.
