So, turning irrigation on at all the regular garden jobs last/this week. Earliest since 2006 easy.
2006 was gangbusters for irrigation installs, changing spray to drip with the water restrictions of the time.

    Ground is so dry atm.

Some good afternoon / evening storm in Dubbo last two evenings. Was great to see it unfld on the new satellite pic.

Not so good for the hay fever though. Asthma has been going silly since the first big blowy storm.

Watched a couple of great cells either hit us or just to the North of us from my boat in westernport on Saturday. Watched the cell that hit Pakenham build and then drop. Was a little unnerving when I touched a rod and got a big zap, just as a cell was rolling over us, but pulled the rods down and didnt have any issues. Unfortunately my phone died so photos could not be taken.

Looking great for some storms in the SE parts of NSW today.
Looking at the models, the tot tots look decent...as does the 500hpa temps.
Me thinks that some hail might be on the cards.

LI and CAPE suggest the bulk of the energy is offshore. Nowra and Sydney soundings dont look all that promising, Wagga looks better (strangely). But that doesnt mean it wont spark, just that a lot of the indicators are saying it's less likely than likely.

Managed just 7mm in two storms over the weekend (Bendigo). Just settles the dust a little.

What's been most ridiculous is the daily max temps we've been having this month. 12 days in and our average max has been 29.0 degC, and our monthly average is 20.4 degC. Warm Octobers seem to be a trend these days. Last time we had an October that averaged under 20c was 2003 (although 2010 and 2005 were just above 20c).

Has anyone else noticed how high the MSLP has been of late? I suspect the nearly 1040 HPa anti-cyclone the other day was an October record.

Interestingly, for my location in the SE subs 2008 was the driest October on record (26.1mm) and the wettest on record was 2 years later in 2010 (129mm). This year? 0.6mm so far.

EC is hinting at some reasonable rainfall for parts of Vic next week. Lots of divergence in the forecast models at present though.

Did it snow up high last night. BOM is showing near zero temps at TTS - so might have been a few flurries up higher?

Quite a bit of difference between models 3 days out, let alone what's might happen next week.
Only a brave man would be doing a long range forecast at the moment.

Speaking of which, SE QLD has been hit pretty hard the last few days too.

Some talk about an earlier than expected breakdown in certain aspects of el nino conditions, but personally i'll wait and see.

EC has been showing up a bit of rain Friday through Saturday morning for Victoria for the last few runs. GFS not going with it still. AXS has a similar pattern, but perhaps with less rainfall.

Water in westernport was the clearest i've ever seen it. I'm looking at 30+ days of no significant rainfall at home too, it's been a dry spell that's for sure.

I noticed that when I was out have a Longboard at Shoreham GF weekend.
Usually a bit murky and a bit of weed in the water but you could see the reef as clear as anything when your surfing, was absolutely stunning, wish it was always like that.

I'm planning on a camping trip in the Main Range on Thursday/Friday/Saturday, maybe catching the last scraps of skiable snow if there's any left.

It's looking like warm winds today and tomorrow will do some damage to the last remaining patches, but what about the forecast of precipitation on Wednesday night/Thursday morning? BOM had suggested snow above 1900m on earlier runs, however have backed off of that pretty quick. Guessing it'll just be rain?

The classic 'hard to rain' after it hasnt rained in a while kind of thing. I just want this change to hurry up and get here, it's kinda gross out tonight.

Spitting large drops of rain here, but disappearing as quickly as it comes. It's evaporating off very quickly.

Storm activity this arvo / evening here, only a little rain but much rumbling and fork lightning.
We need the rain not the dry strikes!
