Classic tropical trough.
Where was pumping down your way nfip??
8 day models have been showing some promise for metro Melbourne over the past 4 weeks but all have drifted further east and we got bugger all.
I hope this one comes through with the goods but I'm not hopeful.
Still favouring NSW central
25mm of rain in the last week in Western Sydney and the soil still looks like this. Aug-oct about 50% of average
Looks like a day 4 WACA pitch^
*except the patches of grass
I was working so could only see it from work & on drive past the car-park reef.
Looked nice and cruisey and got better / bigger during the day / incoming 3+ (4 ish?? maybe not)
Spotted those that know checking it early but they didn't surf there, so better elsewhere out on the open beaches I would say.
One of those days that anywhere with decent banks would have been a lot of fun.
Wave magnet reefs may also have come into play as the tide dropped out.
Like that spot down your street that needs a little paddle and feels a little sharky when out there alone?
Would love to hit your stretch of coast again for a road trip, so many good spots
Feels a little sharky when out there with others too !!
Prolly because it is .
True. Have sat on the bench seat on "this" side and watched sharks and dolphins fighting over a school of bait fish on the run out
Latest GFS runs amplify moisture, with more coming early to mid next week.
EC going with this weekend, but not so much early next week.
Quite a tropical system, that's for sure. Hopefully it doesn't dry out before it gets here....

'twas puking down on the Darling Downs in Qld yesterday:
Apart from this weekend, both GFS and EC showing a significant fall in the SE next Wednesday.
yeah broad troughs and a nice feed should result in good rains for crops..
You reckon Sat or Sun will see most of the action over central VIC? I want to get out for a fish, but getting zapped isnt my idea of a good time. At this stage Saturday is looking better for me tide and wind-wise, but if it's going to get stormy i'd rather save it. A few minor storms i'm OK with, but if it lights up that's not cool to be on the water.
Good rises and hatches in stormy conditions.
In my fly days some of my best fishes were in stormy hot conditions, so many fish rising you couldn't make up your mind where to place the fly.
This may be true but I fish in the bay with carbon rods.
Ah I saw you say central Vic so i thought you meant up country way.
Yeah don't fish middle of the bay with Carbon rods mid storm. Thats silly
Looks interesting from about midday Saturday
Sunday not nearly as likely
Saturday also looks wet, from the get-go.
Interestingly BOM suggesting snowfalls in TAS on Mt Wellington and other areas over Monday/Tuesday next week down to 1,000M Level
Warm, dry in the SE.
How very el nino
Interesting to put them over the soil moisture anomalies, the SE enters the period very wet, I figure the autumn anomalies will be showing a vastly different story. Extreme to extreme in ever shortening cycles
Seemed pretty gradual to me the transition from la to el. Hit with a vengeance in se now
I reckon Vic is a bit dry...
Have had lawn irrigation on at the regulars since late September.
Is crazy dry.
In the illawarra.
i will mow tommorrow....
I mowed on monday
you can feel everything growing.
humidity pulsing out of the ground.
Inland NSW is going to get a good drink.
Storms all ready popped up.
Bit earlier than I thought.
Same here in the BM's. Left my buffalo lawn two weeks and was just about past my ankles!
Looking like some proper rain mid next week. Hoping it stays a bit further north as I have a MTB race in the Southern Highlands on Sunday. Will be well shitty if it gets canned cause of the rain.
I am now mulching on every second mow..cause I'm filling the green waste bin fast.
you should get some decent flash bang tommorrow in the BMs.
That in feed and LI looks great for the ranges.
If the seabreeze gets up it will tear the structure out of the storms for the coast.
Yeah looking like late afternoon? No chance of a sea breeze this far west but sometime the OP and upper BM'S can conspire to spoil the party for us foothill dwellers. If the sheer is good we should see some decent action.
Shear looks fine ...
you guys will be the focus IMO... OP and lithgow as well
Not very good timing out this way. Harvest is under way. Rain not good when you are trying to get the crop off.
Such a fickle business. Don't get rain when you want it and vice versa. Hard for it to all come together. And then most seem at the mercy of the harvesting contractors.
Rare cyclone set to make landfall in Yemen - 8 years of rain in 2 days!
The winter crops. Wheat and other cereals, canola.
Harvest probably been underway for a few weeks up around the QLD border. Moves south at a rate of about 100km a week. So its xmas time harvest down in VIC.
Looking at the forecasts for the Illawarra we are about to go from nice weather with a bit of rain to keep things green and the grass growing to days and days of rain. Going on past years, the "drought" often seems to "break" here first - anything from 1-6 months. That's just a general observation from living here on the south coast for 15 years and listening to people complain (locally) about it being really dry when it often seems to have already begun to change to a wetter period. East of the GDR is very different to the west and it often seems hard to believe there is a drought when surrounded by green fields in all directions - but only 200 kms west it's a dust bowl.
very steady rain in Dubbo for the last hour.
Some nice rumbles in Melbourne. Moisture mostly to the west though.
Absolutely puking down here at the moment, just had a huge flash bang also.
Don't think ill be out on the bike today
Nice rain now in ivanhoe
Got a ride in, not to bad on the way out, poured down on the way back.
Im no way near as dedicated as you, either are my riding buddies. None were tinkering a maybe, no's all round.
There wasn't too many out, so you were hardly lepers.
