Looking further ahead into next week, some of the forecast models (EC and Access-G) are suggesting a bit of a heatwave with strong northerlies and 850T well above 20degC. Might even see our first TFB in some districts.

    Indeed.
And might see a few flurries and a cold clipper over cup weekend preceding.

Latest seasonal forecasts suggest a warm and dry summer over Eastern Australia.

Following on from a hot and relatively dry Spring here in the South East. Grass has dried off quite quickly and it's not even November yet.

    Sure has.
It also should be noted that the above models did not predict the first few wet years after 09.
That said, I think they are on the money for the coming summer, and next year too. But if all they seem to predict is repetitious hot years they will mostly be correct.
Note: I do believe human activity affects the climate, but take some of these predictive models with a grain of salt.

Anyone thinking of drifting up on the main range for the festival of the horse long weekend will be encouraged by the minimums for sun, Mon and Tues. Early morning turns and afternoon walking could be worthwhile.

Feral at Dubbo this evening. Strong wind and no rain so plenty of dust about. If you live in Sydney expect a brown car in the morning.

They were older statistical models back then and they amissed the rapid ENSO swing from El Nino to La Nina. I presume the dynamical based models used now would have a better chance of picking up such rapid changes.

Emergency bushfire warning for parts of Katoomba, Blue Mountains. Windy, warm, fortunately not low humidity. Winds look set to stay strong for next few hours at least.

Cool on the coast in Sydney. The strong SW wind makes the ocean off Cronulla look like a mid winter morning.

This cold front that just went through is a good example of what winter could have been like. Cold and dry.

... in that how close it came to been a really crappy season. Saved by just 2 big snow falls early on - with barely one good snow fall after that.

    Absolutely.
Still makes me laugh how the resorts PR machines were still trying to claim the best season in years well into August etc.

Yer I don't believe their bullshite PR spin , the radio "snow reports" are entertaining at best.
BUT credit wher it's due Perisher did make the most of what they had to work with.
    Includes their snowmaking & farming.
Late season there was still plenty of the mountain accessible if you're dependant solely on lifting.
Included early morning ring around to the lodges saying , by the ski centre advice that ... lift only open for an hour so you can get over to...

I was right on rainfall for October. My garden is looking good, I think i watered the pot plants and some of the more water-loving plants once.

We're getting hammered in Queenstown, it's 5 degrees, pouring with rain and the Remarks look better than they did for most of the winter. I've got a veg garden full of seedlings that are about to give up the ghost.

Woke to frost this morning and heavy snow on the hills around town. Summer seems as far away as it ever did in the middle of August.

just got a good 30 mins worth in Dubbo. Heavy hail at one stage. Tested out my recently repaired storm water work. Still some issues but at least the water got off the roof this time round.

Round 2 warming up in the distance, probably an hour off. Possibly not storms but looks like a wall of rain approaching.

Ground is just damp from our muzzle. Will take advantage if it by putting the sprinkler on and give the garden something to take into friday.
