Had to double now this morning. Have been away all week.
had a tornado rip through here yesterday.
Vines around the gol gol region are all knocked over.
we had hail, street was a couple feet under water, lucky no damage at home, lots of trees down tho.
pretty nasty storm, lots of rain wind and hail in a short period
Tomorrow looks prime for storms.
Working in Mt Martha by the bay. Hopefully get a good view!
Just started pouring in the SE subs, 10 mins after I got in to work. Looks like there will be some good totals out of this today.
Really solid rain now, possibly even a bit of hail in there.
Good small storms moving through here in Sandy for the last 3 hrs, had some pretty heavy rain at times and a few good rumbles also.
Radar suggesting that it could go on for a fair chunk of the arvo also. Might bring up some ok totals by the end of the day.
Seams to be continuing to build out to the west.
Good start to the week. Makes Mondays that much more manageable when there is some nice action going on outside after such a good weekend
yep, radar showing a line of storms coming through the Wimmera right now making its way towards the metro area. A good band of rain sweeping across the Riverina about about to hit the Snowies too. Albury-Wodonga in the firing line. Would suspect some good totals in the hills
STW out for Melbourne:
And a wide swathe of Vic, which is likely to move across the State in the next few hours:
Stopped raining here for a few mins before kicking back in, it's been consistently raining since 8am, sometimes light but other times really heavy. Hard to guess the totals but I would say >10mm. Thunder going off too, quite muggy.
NINO3.4 index has exceeded +1 for the first time since March 2010
I normally interpret PG's posts in this thread as "it's gonna be hot. Either in the short term or the long term, but probably both".
Why are you posting in here when it's not a heatwave?
Anyway, radar pic across Victoria looking absolutely beaut right now:
Pacific Ocean temperatures are above normal, indicating a classic El Nino pattern.
i.e. its going to be a hot summer over Eastern Australia.
Case closed, forget your forecasting for the rest of the summer, there's simply no other option for the weather to take.
(I know PG has me on ignore) #headinsand
Just got the update from my mum in Seymour:
15.5mm in the storm that just rolled through.
Fab beach weekend weather for my camping trip! Good mix of sun and clouds!
Both drive days (Friday and yesterday) were scorchers though!
So we are all doomed?
Further to @Chondro 's comments, I noticed this article from WZ:
Looks like this system is now clearing Melbourne.
Hopefully a relatively dry ride home.
Yep, seams to be all done and dusted. Would be some good totals one would assume without looking at any official data.
Systems suggesting next weekend could be another chance for storms, but a week away so we shall wait and see.
EC suggesting a chance of rain Sunday afternoon. GFS far from conclusive.
Radar suggests some decent storms along the Murray and north of it, impressive.
Just had a blackout after lightning strike more or less on top of our house. Whole suburb is out. (Davidson, Northern Beaches)
@Ian D was this anywhere near you in Newcastle today
That was in cbd, I am about 10km from that. Plenty near me but.
I will predict another rain event for Victoria starting next Monday.IMO
You had one job @_youhadonejob 15m15 minutes ago
This is awkward.
And storms"busting" out all over by the look of it
Im guessing it was someones last day
Being America, they would have had folks outside the station calling for heads to roll
Models starting to jump on a sustained period of tropical moisture this weekend into next.
GFS is throwing up some good totals, as they usually do around this time out from the system, they tend to get a little excited.
But good to see most models agreeing something will happen.
I enjoyed Monday and want more more more
GFS looking very stormy for the SE for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday today - the exact opposite to yesterday's runs.
EC was showing this a few days ago, but has backed right off now.
I'd suggest it still pretty volatile and difficult to predict what will happen right now.
Latest GFS run has the moisture more in line with EC, with vast majority falling in southern NSW and north-east border Victoria.
Looks like a good day for a fish Saturday CC, get off your ring and get out there. I'll be out looking for grey subs.
I'll be out. Chasing some Snapper with the old man
What is this snapper you speak of?
Those pink flesh fishy smelling creatures.
8 yo birthday party with the family.
Oh, you mean sea carp?
If I had a dollar for every excuse you come up with...
Plenty of them on the gold coast and in Bali at the moment from all reports
GFS suggesting fairly unsettled across the east for much of next week.
High Li values pretty much every afternoon from Sunday through Friday.
Monday, Thursday & Friday seem the pick of it here in Victoria
NSW looks like it will be smashed most afternoons.
The pattern is set, heatwave then storms, repeat.
Like that top chart CC. Would be a Lake Burrendong filler.
Like it too man.
Surprised no-one has mentioned the Brisbane storms carnage.
