Quite heavy rain on and off all afternoon here in Moorabbin.

Looking forward to the drive to PI after work - AWD no stress.

6th-8th Nov looks large for the SE on this mornings runs. Those troughs have been promising for a week or so no without really delivering. This one looks to be more stationary.

Chance of some TS activity on the NSW / Vic border this afternoon. Don't think it will extend down to Melbourne today though.

Looks ok. Something to break the dry spell we've had this spring.
Wet Melbourne Cup?

All models agreeing to some extent on a tropical feed/cold front scenario next week. Would be a shame to see it on Melbourne Cup day though.

Tomorrow looking seriously hot around Victoria. Been a while since we've had this kind of heat this early...

Warm and windy already here in Melbourne, good night though it didnt stay too warm, at least not closer to the coast here.

I know they've forecast 34C today but I dont know if it'll feel that warm, the wind and approaching cloud cover should make it feel cooler.

Driest October in Southern Australia (below -26 degrees latitude) on record.

For 3-month data, 2nd-driest on record for Southern Australia overall (just behind August-October 1914)

Not too surprised there. My 2 weather stations (at different locations) are tracking slightly above average for rainfall. One is 30odd mm above average the other 80mm.

Rain and wind came through my area about 0530, waking me up. Rained hard up until about now, wind has dropped off. Was certainly heavy, until I saw the radar I was sure i'd be hearing thunder and seeing lightning, but it looks like it was more of a band than a storm front.

Nevertheless 10mm+ in a couple of hours will make everything grow like stink over the weekend.

October for the Gippsland home came with a couple of isolated storms which brought the rainfall total close to average. We seem to be that blob in SE Victoria that received 'average' rainfall over the past 3 months... tanks are full and it's only now we can start walking out onto the grass without sinking into mud! As for around Melbourne, nature strips are starting to look a little parched already. Fingers crossed for some decent rain next week.

I dont know what parts of Melbourne you're looking at when you say the nature strips are looking parched, because everyone around my area couldnt be any greener.

They are pretty good around our way. Things are very green, the soil is reasonably damp and will be topped up after this rain.
Although I'd say the grass isn't growing as fast as last year.

No and i'd say that's because of the lack of humid mid 20's days. We've had a lot of cold days, then a day or 2 warmer then back to cold. Not enough troughs and thunderstorm afternoons

My soil is again very damp, back to pooling in my neighborhood after this rain.

EC has a fair bit too, although nothing like the numbers for GFS

Could be a good arvo to sneak out for a fish if the weather looks like storming and the wind is not too bad. I wont bother going out any other time over this long weekend.

Well I do need to fertilize the grass, looking like Monday will be the day to do that.

Use some tank water then a good 15-20mm soaking Tuesday

Fantastic storms in Adelaide last night, lost power for a few hours. Great lightning display. That will be it for another year now.
