Just had the first thunder rumble. Buckets are in place where the roof leaks. Dogs all inside. The fire I lit outside to burn off last night is well and truly out

(Just got that lit in time as fire restrictions start here on Monday)

Epic night of thunder/lighting last night!

Very limited water restrictions this summer in Melbourne.

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/water-restrictions-ease-for-summer-20121127-2a4ya.html

Water restrictions are set to ease for Victorians to allow watering every day of the week, the State Government announced today.

Premier Ted Baillieu and Minister for Water Peter Walsh said residents will have more flexibility with their water usage when Stage 1 water restrictions end on December 1.

“From 1 December 2012 Victorians will be able to use their sprinkler watering system on any day of the week between 6pm and 10am.

Hand held hoses with a trigger nozzle can also be used on any day of the week at any time,†Mr Baillieu said.

Melbourne's water storages have now recovered to 81.3 per cent, the highest they have been at this time of year in 16 years, he said.

Mr Walsh said he was confident Melburnians would not slip back to using water like it was an unlimited resource.

‘‘We believe there has been a cultural change in how Melburnians use water, and we expect them to maintain their water-wise ways,’’ he told reporters on Tuesday.

‘‘I think through the drought people have come to appreciate how precious water is.’’

Mr Walsh said these rules were consistent across the whole of Victoria, helping to lock in water efficiency.

Looks like lots of potential for storms for the whole week.
Every afternoon has high LI values on GFS.

GFS suggest it clears off to the NE of Vic on Saturday afternoon, and NSW later on Sunday afternoon.

Tomorrow worth a shot on the water guys? BOM not going for much wind before midday, i'll be out before first light and hopefully back in by 12. If it's like today then i'll be sweet, and the models and BOM seem to be predicting that. Thoughts?

Charter looks OK. Maybe a SW wind but not too bad and 20C.

If I hear one more media outlet reporting today as a heatwave I am going to RAGE

It's ONE HOT DAY

On the plus side, the rain the other night got several thousand of litres back into the water tanks

Looking like another 15-20mm Fri/Sat as well according to YR.NO for Melbourne

That's another 3500 litres back in the tanks and means no watering for a week or so!

Definately back to cooler weather next week as well

'Heatwave' or not, you're still going to get a few records broken throughout Australia.

Ouyen recorded 45.8 degrees – the hottest temperature ever recorded in Victoria in November.

Mildura recorded 45.5 degrees, breaking its 1905 record by half a degree.

Melbourne reached 39.1 degrees at 3.40pm, below the 40.9 degrees it recorded in November 1894.

Most long-term ensemble products from JMA, ECMWF, CMA (Canadian Met agency) are predicting warm termps over most of Australia in the 2nd-half of November.

The EC ensemble is showing strong probabilities of higher than normal sea level pressures across inland/northern Aus during this time and JMA is also suggesting higher than normal 500hpa heights around NSW as well.
How about those fancy ensemble models eh?

South Australia broke their minimum November temperature record yesterday with Oodnadatta recording an overnight minimum of 32.3 degrees, beating the 2006 record.

Models were good at predicting this.

Anyway, hot, wet, and sticky this morning.

Models were sharp as all hell werent they? Well not really. Have a look at what was happening in central Australia for the past month or 2 and you could see if a trough lined up this was going to happen. I kept on looking at maximums through the center of the country and wondering when that brutally hot air was going to be blown our way. Didnt really need a model to predict that this was going to happen.
