Seeing as though its going to be a bit of a hot one this summer, thought i might give this a go. if it doesnt catch on them ill pull it.

It's simple, pick a city (can be your home town or another one) but it MUST have a functioning AWS working for you to select it. Then pick a temperature, to the nearest 0.1C that you think will be the max temperature that will be recorded in that city (at that AWS) from november 1st - February 28th. I spose it not much of a comp, but will be interesting if people reply to see just how hot they reckon it will be.

My pick - Melbourne (Melbourne GPO AWS), 43.7C sometime in jan. [IMG]

Edit: Now ive added all the predictions, its up to you to let me know when you're 'out' when your chosen station is equalled or exceeded (the date and the temp that was recorded aswell) and i will write it next to your predictions. At the end of say February i will try to find max temps for the summer for all the selected stations and find out who is closest for their selected station. Some people are already out of the running :p

Campania is a relatively new weather station in Tasmania's south-east. When the wind is from the north it regularly is the hottest spot in the state.

Because of the drought and the way the weather patterns are shaping up I reckon Tasmania will break it's all time record high of 40.8 ( Hobart, 1976 ). Campania will take the honours with 41.3.

Hobart will hit 40.5, then there will be snow on the mountain two days later.

Melbourne GPO aws 44.5 sometime between 20th of Dec and 15th of Feb, last new years eve was 42.9 in Melbourne and the 22nd of Jan also reached 42.4, I think this time being so dry and the temps being consistantly above average we have a very good chance of beating last year. So far this October we are averaging 23.8 , total madness thats what we get in December normally!!!!! Dec 05 & Jan 06 both averaged 27.7 which was significantly above the longterm average, Feb was cooler and March was a stinker averaging 26.1. They may well be beaten this summer.

Melbourne at almost 37 in early October? -Something very wrong there -looks like what ever the hell is going wrong with the climate is accelerating.

My prediction? either Melbourne or Adelaide will crack the unthinkable 50c barrier this summer

....and that will just be the beginning

    Sydney, Observatory Hill: only 38.7C.

I don't think it'll be a particularly hot summer and when we do get a few extremely hot days, Obs Hill will be saved by a sea breeze (suburbs will reach the mid 40s).

I think it will be hot - but not as much as its been made out to be.

I think 41.7C max for Melbourne this year [IMG] .

Well the temperature u selected had to be the closest but not over the highest summer max temp (to the end of feb) for the station you selected.

It's your competition and your rules but that's not what you said in your first post. You said the closest guess wins. I therefore think Quro should still be in, having guessed a max for Darwin which was 0.8 degrees off the mark.

Instead of being eliminated from the competition you should mark him as being 'LOCKED IN' with a margin of error of 0.8C, rather than being OUT.

Everyone else who has had a go therefore needs their prediction to be better than 0.8 before Quro is eliminated.

But it's early days. Sydney's max is SO FAR 38.4, but there's a good chance it might exceed 39.5 before the end of the season leaving you more than 0.8C out and therefore making Quro's guess the most accurate.

If doesn't go above 38.4 then your guess is 0.3C out and leaves you with a good chance.

fair enough, then thats the way it will stay, with the closest to the actual max being recorded. Also, could someone who has WZ silver be willing at the end of jan to get me the summer maxs for each of the selected stations? thanks

Verm - Can do for you. also happy to do one score update mid-jan to keep things interesting.

What I will need from you is a list of WMO numbers (and preferably site number) for each entrant, and their estimate.
