13-14th top up of swell courtesy of the Southerly buster for South/Central & Mid coasts.
15-18FEB looking good for swell for NSW & SE QLD with another back up on the 25th onwards, IF that Tropical Depression lives up to it's progged strength.

Surf coast (Vic) looking to get some great surf early neck week, shame about the winds, but I know of a few places that'd be cooking down there Mondee/Chewsdee.

Had an early with 5 of the regulars up at Barrenjoey. Was really pretty good. A bit of bump in it but an honest 3' on the sets and nice workable walls. Seem to be lots of people heading to the beach now and gearing up to hit the water. I am finishing my coffee and going home to hide from the heat.

Also had a fun surf @Ted Harper at Mid-Southy on Saturday morning. I thought sets seemed more 2ft+ but definitely very fun when you get one that ran. Got plenty of short, sharp fun ones indeed.

Hit it early at Barrenjoey again this morning with one of my teenagers, my friend's son (she was having a 2-hour private down the beach with the surf school to improve again after not riding her board for 3 months with her stuffed rotator cuff), and half a dozen other Sunday morning regulars.

Bit smaller than yesterday and we had to wait a bit longer between good ones but super-nice conditions. I got 25 ok to good waves in about 90 minutes. We all knocked off about 8:45am when it was getting a bit fat and a fair few bait fish around and a school of dolphins cutting them to pieces about 50m from the bank we were surfing.

Edited to add: Maybe our collective unease with the bait fish getting mushed up by the dolphins was well-founded (from the Dorsal app on my phone that I only got around to checking this afternoon):

@Ted Harper the shark alarm also went off at my local (DY) whilst I was in the water yesterday just before 1pm! Water was cleared quickly from swimmers but plenty of surfers stayed out. I didn't see it or anything resembling it but asked the lifeguard and he said it was a confirmed sighting so who knows.

Before all the commotion, I had a really fun little surf, again about 2ft+ on the sets and inconsistent, but when they came, so fun. Fast, fun little mostly left 2+ walls holding really well, very rippable and fun. Got 2 which were really fun plus a bunch of other mediocre ones.

got some stonkers out there this morning (Bondi). 4-5 foot and clean. A little wobbly and a little straight but if you can pick off the break aways, there's some crackers out there! Boardies only crew!

No pics actually, just full surf pig status. Glassy conditions most of the weekend 3-4ft beaches Saturday, 3ft Sunday.

Queens is so good Craig, it's a magnet just like Treach and such an epic spot. Can often be 2-3ft+ when everywhere else is 1ft or less. Can also get really cold water currents there too.

Yep was freezing, like 18deg I reckon, but then the point and main beach were 22/23.

@POW_hungry App that right bank was epic this morning, full barreling and heavy. Make any? Also nice work managing the gallery!

Ha yeah that's not surprising at all about the cold water there, not sure what it is about that place, really unique spot. Always lots of activity there. I've often seen big pods of dolphins, fish and bird life. Never any noahs but would not surprise me in the slightest if they have been sighted cruising through the line up there. Always unbelievable clarity there too.

I've had some cracking sessions there over the years though. The banks tend to be pretty reliable and it's virtually offshore in a NE'r - ahhh so jealous! Would have been so uncrowded up there too

Yeah we surfed the beachy at Queens to ourselves, with a couple of dingos looking on, and also the main beach practically empty and pumping!!

This was one of those days where everywhere else was around 1ft rubbish then up over the hill revealed lovely 2-3ft clean sets.....

Jeez the tides were so much bigger this time and sand totally different. Check this.. Also hard to tell but outerbank sets were over 4ft.

@SAsurfa that does look like a very high tide!

My pic was taken late December 2013 so definitely a few solid years in sand changes / build up.

Being such an open / exposed spot, it's very prone to extreme changes too.

Like Treach there is often that lovely deep water channel to paddle out from the corner in :)

Bit of S swell came up yesterday and still sticking around today although quality very ordinary today with that E/SE wind.

Still, more swell than we have had in recent times....

Good fun waves on the high at a South Coast point break. Was poor early with an E/SE wind but swung S'ly mid-morning.

What's everyone's thoughts on the Autumn period coming up, will we see increased TC activity and some classic Autumn swells? Let's hope so :)

Long way off but I'm hoping for a bumper easter and ANZAC 4-dayer to help spread the crowds and get some good water time.

Amen to that. Seems like it's been a few years since we've had a really "classic" easter with good waves over the period.

I think it was either 2012 or 2014, that was a cracking Easter. Good Friday was sensational with good swell and offshore winds all day. I'll see if I can dig up a pic of my mysto inside Sydney heads spot that came alive.

Was only a foot down here but I did spot a couple of double ups , wind / breeze slop wedges you could have slid if you where really keen.
I opted for the pool , beer , mow lawn, pool , beer , beer relay.

I had a short mid-week surf today (45 minutes from a bit after 11am). North Palm Beach, out from about the middle of the car park. They were filming Hone and Away up the beach a bit so I was disinclined to walk past and up to the 'Joey. Anyway I got 23 short and forgettable waves, light onshore winds, small and mushy but very much better than not surfing. Water was very clear and somewhere on the tropical side of warm.

At least it would have been uncrowded (sorry trying to put a positive spin on what sounds like a pretty average 'get wet' type session there @Ted Harper ;) )

Friday ramblings - talk of this E/NE swell being best in NE NZ mid-to-late next got me doing 15 minutes of google map dreaming this morning, in which I found some good potential rivermouth set-ups. There is a deeper backstory for me here, my partner is of direct dutch heritage but NZ birth and she dreams of returning to NZ, so I googled for some nearby real estate sales, all I'll say it's wow, pretty much as expensive or more expensive than Aus!! This said location was approx 200km from Auckland.

NZ holds loads of potential @Belly especially those mysto North Island spots when a TC pops up in the right place, right time.

I'm surprised more spots haven't been discovered / exposed over there to be honest.....I guess being an island in such a 'dynamic' area of the world it's also very fickle.

Looks cold though, even 200km north of Auckland ;)
Being ex-Vic I can now only do super-cold for strike missions, south coast NSW is about as cold as I'd be prepared to go on a semi-permanent basis.

Speaking of water temps, a mate that's in the Makai paddlers tells me they had 26 degree water temp in their down wind event from Sussex to the Harbour on the weekend.

Yeah she's pretty warm in at the moment, almost too warm for my liking especially on those hot days. I like it around 22-23 that's about right :)
