Anything of note happening or planned to happen this summer? Any chance of more snow making going in?

reliable source tells me the dinner plain poma run lighting (for night skiing) and all the snowmaking guns to be completed by Christmas.
i also understand they are hoping to install more snow guns in heavenly area (not confirmed).

haven't heard about any new guns in heavenly, and at $100k a pop after the last couple of seasons it would be a surprise.

They could add a couple of guns on lower imagine, after that it would just be increasing density, on slalom, across the top/milky way and snake. Which would mean new hydrants, plumbing, electrical and comms, again if no money is being spent then it maybe wishful

There's about 500m of concrete pipe (2.1m diam.) going into swindlers valley, I gather this is replacement for what's already there. There isn't much info. about the operation, even though preparation work was started last summer.

Went to Hotham and Dinner Plain today. I could see no major works at Hotham.

Snowmaking works under way at Dinner Plain.
    - New water tank completed.
    - Pipe works and dirt works being done.

New Tube Town for Dinner Plain this season. Info taken from the 2015 School Manual
"Welcome to our new fun filled tube slides, located next to the DP ski lift – we don’t even need snow to operate the tube park! Tube Town is a hit for all – ride a blow-up tube down our all-weather tube slides at high speed."

There's drainage works down happening in Swindlers creek valley. They had Davenport track closed for walking over Christmas. The walking track through to Spargos hut had a detour (Can't remember the name) but access to Silver Brumby Hut was closed.

Go on you Dinner Plain and Alpine Shire for making those improvements. This will be a great boost for DP, as its amazing how many young families stay at DP just to access that slope and snow play area.

Yes indeed , for years the council et al has been trying to help but was limited to generic town facilities and not favouring commercial operations.
DP needs snow making and lighting so this is a fantastic initiative ...

Sounds like a real boost for DP and a great place for young families to learn to ski.

Pity nothing happened up at the main resort.

    Yes true cuppa.

Although on that, I find it very interesting that Hohum and DP have been combined into a single forum. Merlin does not have any management rights at DP as its private land. Its actually the Alpine Shire council, and it is them that is funding the snow making. Not Merlin or MHSC as far as I am aware.

More accurately ratepayers of dinner plain properties are probably funding majority of works.

I think that you will find that the majority of the funding is from state government grants following on from the Harrietville fires. The big ticket items from the couple of million dollars in 'recovery funding' went to Harrietville-Bright Bike Trail, Bright Splash Park (!!!!) and Dinner Plain developments. MHSL might have got the contract for the works and ongoing management of snowmaking and lift, but not certain of that.

yes no doubt whilst being an ex dp rate payer myself, coming up with capital for snowmaking needed external help.
Great result for DP however and much needed.

The Harrietville fires ahh! Such a great topic around here.
Just to clear some things up. The fires were never in Harrietville.
The burn off's done over the last couple of weeks were right on Harrietvilles doorstep. No mention in the media though.
The recovery money. Mostly went to DP and Bright for these so called Harrietville fires.
Harrietville got a crap bike trail that starts in the middle of town and ends at the trout farm.
The trail then stops. It picks up again where the Tawonga gap turn off is. Then continues to Bright.
The surface is worse than a dirt road, it is too narrow and barbed wire fences at chest and neck level.
A car has also landed on its roof on the trail.
    Thanks!

I am quite aware of the location of the fires....the fire complex was referred to as Harrietville and later split up into two different Harrietville complexes.
At the time I was very critical of the amount of money that went to Bright from the recovery funds and clashed heads directly with our local Government MP at the time about it. Bright businesses actually had February trading well above normal due to the fires as DSE, Parks Vic and CFA were accommodating and feeding their personnel in Bright and as well Bright had no events affected. Businesses were more affected here in Mt Beauty by the impact of the fires on tourism for Aust Long Weekend and Feb but we didn't see a single cent of recovery funding.
Rode the trail from H'ville to Trout Farm and back with our 5YO earlier this year....found it a good fun ride. The section from Bright to Germantown has to be one of the ugliest sections of Bike Trail in the state.
We have a heap of DWELP (?) activity going on here today because a controlled burn on our doorstep got a little hot in the winds yesterday.

    well said Hully, spot on.

Also Guru if we are providing accurate information - the car in question slid on frost went backwards over the edge and was stopped by trees, it did not end up on where the trail is constructed now. And this accident happened quiet a number of years ago, I am not aware of any other accidents, since the construction of the trail, where a car has ended up on the bike trail. Could be wrong though...has happened before ;)

The surface of the trail is very, very poor.

There was no DP forum. I asked for one. It was apparently too much trouble to create a separate forum and admin (IanD) didn't think there was enough interest for a separate DP forum. So we got a merger. Admin will consider separate forums if enough interest is generated in DP.

I noted the other week that top bullwheel of village lift was on the ground. No idea why, but it was interesting the way they were restraining the cable in absence of the wheel

probably a simple answer but what happened to all the hotham cams? Used to be 3 different angles for each camera, now theres only 4-5 views altogether?

I rode on the harrietville bike trail and thought it was truly awful for anyone other than young kids.

There has been campaigning for a few years to make it safer for cyclists on the GAR between Bright and Harrietville. No way will this help. I think the gravel cost me a gear or 2, there are too many tight bends, especially considering the gravel, the bridges are too narrow to pass and one has a 90° corner (not a bend, a hard corner). It was a relief to get to the trout farm and get back on the GAR. Can't see myself ever riding it again unless I had littlies in tow.

Oh that's sad...we do like it when bikes are given a chance to keep away from cars...
maybe they can rework the bike path...like bike path upgrade....

I believe that the snowmaking pipe was replaced in Slalom Gully this summer. In more exciting news, whilst that pipe was been replaced, they put a "five gun" branch up Imagine and dead headed it. Expectation is that they will add the guns next summer. That should pretty much fill the current gap in Imagine. Also all the snow pushed down the hill will add to the base in Slalom.

    Good news.

That's great news Cuppa! Imagine is one of the best solid blues at Hotham. It will we fabulous to have top-bottom cover during most of the season and perhaps take a little pressure off the village loop & Blue Snake when snow is light.

Its's always good to see new lifts being built, even if it just the Tube Tow at Dinner plain.
I spotted the towers in place when we popped up the other weekend.
