We're looking at a mid week break at Falls this year - both of these places have restaurants (dining packages). Does anyone know much about them? Which would you choose?

    Based on the food, neither.

Astra is getting a major reno this summer so that counts in its favour.

I haven't eaten at Summit Ridge for a couple of years. it was ok, but not fabulous and I've heard it has slipped a bit since then.

I ate at Astra last year and was very disappointed. The ambience was pub. Some of our seats were wooden benches. The menu was very limited. IIRC there were 3 expensive but not particularly great pastas, a veal cutlet and a chicken dish. There was a tapas menu too which may have been better. A friend who was with us that night went again later in the season (a prize I think) and said it was much better. She may have received special attention.

IMHO best food last year was Huski and Elk. I didn't eat at Winterhaven or Feathertop which could also have been good.

Of course past performance may not predict future performance

I wouldn't want to lock in to eating in the same place every night. Elk, Huski, Nelse, Astra are all very close together and Winterhaven is nearby. Stay at one and eat somewhere different each night.

I should have said that the bar/dining room got a makeover for last season. IMHO this destroyed the ambience. Not sure when ODNT last went, but if it wasn't last season then the ambience he liked is gone.

funny thing is these days you walk into a lot of these bars and the ambience is destroyed because every second person has their face glued to a phone or and ipad!

My understanding from feedback I received is that Summit Ridge was back on its 'a game' last season.
I think that the food next season at Astra will be up where it should be.
I really enjoyed the food I had at Huski last season....like most it all depends on the team they have this season.
I personally would book accomm bad on what you want from where you stay and then dine based on feedback as the season evolves.

If this is slipped I would have loved to have seen it at it's peak. We've had some truly memorable and amazing dishes, the service is terrific and the wine list very good.

And breakfast - just letting my eggs benny settle a bit before heading out. :D

A few weeks ago we had the degustation at Feathertop. Definitely the best meal I've had at Falls Creek - in 30 years' worth of occasional eating out
