Al Raine helped develop Whistler. He is (still?) the mayor of Sun Peaks and has played a large role in its development (husband of Nancy Greene, if you didn't know).

yep still the mayor.

I read that he had a stroke during the week before christmas.

has anyone heard any updates on his health?

Thanks, @rime noreason . I was anointed the Captain of the Extreme Team this afternoon but had to put up with a lot of whinging from @Astro66 about “flat spots”, “traversing”, and “so much poling”. Gotta make sacrifices for the scenery :D. To silence the critics, I took the team down Agitator and Spin Cycle, managing most of these mogully runs without incident. Fresh snow this afternoon ...
NO! Captain! What the hell is going on over there @Astro66 .

I spoke with him last night, he said it was a minor stroke with some tingling sensations down one side, nothing permanent and fully recovered.

I sat next to him last night at the Blazers v Spokane hockey game, he cheered Kamloops onto victory.....

It was a great game! Nice to see you again, @Joe :). Big thanks also to Al Raine for his generosity in hosting us, and @Astro66 for instigating this.

Yep ..... No probs Lady P. Thanks for joining us. And Joe and his family.

Last night capped off a fabulous couple of days. Al Raine (The Mayor of Sun Peaks) stayed true to word and took us to a Blazers Game. There was free popcorn and even SkiDotCom members were welcomed on the big screen and in an announcement.

Young Astro couldn't repeat his Dance Competition win, but was a close second place. He was rewarded with a free gift being presented on the big screen.

Combined with a thrilling game of hockey. A great night was had.

On the journey home, Al gave an interesting history of Real Estate in Kamloops, which was fascinating.

See what YOU started ???

Yes ......... @Lady Penelope earned her place as Captain of The Extreme Team ??? ............. She took the Extreme Team over to Morrisey, where there was EXTREME Traversing, EXTREME Poling, and in her words........ "EXTREME Scenery" ???:rolleyes::rolleyes:

In her defence. She did end the Extreme Session with a journey down Spin Cycle. Where she demonstrated EXTREME Yardsaling.:whistle::whistle:

It was a fun afternoon. And all jokes aside. @Lady Penelope is one on the gutsiest skiers on the Mountain. Skiing slopes and moguls, most would shudder at.

Aww, thank you! And I must mention the forgettable day @Astro66 had today: broken powder basket, replacement basket that broke before the first run, delaminating ski, and the Crystal chair smashing into him through no fault of his own. But he stayed chirpy as ever, leading the boys through the trees on Extreme runs :).

Our last day tomorrow and I’m already feeling weepy. Mr 10 got great value from his group lessons, finishing yesterday with an instructor all to himself. He’s conquered most of the mountain, and certainly puts his mother to shame (not hard) zipping down mogul/double black diamond runs. His older brother leaves few in his wake, too.

Sadly our last day at Sun Peaks, and what a beautiful morning it was with plentiful fresh snow falling. We skied with the Astros, and @Astro66 did his best to lose the boys in the trees :p. Seriously though, my two had a ball skiing all over the mountain with Astro, Astro jnr, and (earlier in the piece) @northsail . Hopefully we will be back again in a few years, depending on where life’s journey takes us.

Great pic Lady P.

Warm wind blew in about 2pm. Turned the fresh snow to glue. Had to pole down Upper Exhibition. Really tough skiing.

Will be a tough day tomorrow. Hopefully that snow arrives before days end.

I was up early today based on a forecast 5-10 cm overnight. Looked at the early report: 0 degrees, 0 new, radar shows some kind of precip over Apex.

Second coffee has been poured.

Yeah. ...... They're reporting snow on the Sun Peaks website and no mention of rain .It's a little naughty if you ask me.

Freezing level probably about 1500 metres.

I might take a look up top later. But currently viability not good up there and don't feel like getting wet.

Decided to head up anyway, stumbled into the most unexpected powder day ever. Was +9 and raining hard in Pen, -1 and absolutely puking at Apex. Must have gone hard for a couple hours before lifts opened and kept going all morning. Came with strong, swirling winds and atrocious vis, but yielded knee deep awesome in the trees up top. Definitely heavy lower down but worth toughing out the weather. Base is now set for the season, this stuff is sticking to everything.

Yep ......... Couldn't help myself and was out by 9:30, where I was greeted with sideways snow and quite a crowd.

But then the sun come out and absolutely no one was skiing the freshies off piste. I had all fresh snow to myself, run after run. I couldn't believe it.

After lunch the family came out and about 2pm they opened the Crystal Chair and it was deep fresh snow, with almost no one aware the top of the mountain was open.

More fresh snow overnight, especially up high. Being the last ski day, it was time to be on the first chair, with my Brother from another Mother, Captain Caveman. :D We hit the groomers for a warm up.
20200202_082510_1.jpg

Then it was time to go off-piste and once again, pure amazement that it was completely untouched. Lone Fir was just ready to be carved up.
20200202_092355_1.jpg

Then the family came out so we headed up high, where Young Astro and I found deeper snow in Pink Flamingo. Snow was magnificent and it was hard to get the grins off our faces.

Monday morning in Sun Peaks. Magnificent day, 8cm of snow reported overnight, bluebird skies, -13c. Fantastic skiing conditions.

And we can’t take advantage of it as we are about to leave for the long journey home. Can’t win Lotto either.

oh well, there’s always next season.

Oh baby ....... The Astros delayed departure. Best ski morning ever. Knee deep on Crystal. Young Astro and I laid first tracks right down the centre of the bowl. Just awesome.

Then we hit every powder spot we knew to lay Astro 8s. It was a massive family achievement. :D

Fabulous final ski.

Another fabulous season at Sun Peaks. I want to thank all the people who skied with my family and I. You guys are the reason that Sun Peaks is so special.

Special mention to @Lady Penelope and her boys. The kids had a ball together, making everyone's holiday so much more fun.

@northsail and @Beerman . The Extreme Team lives on, and it's rubbing off on Young Astro, as he is skiing the difficult terrain much more aggressively. Thx boys.

Josh and @Hudson , who were on the Mountain reliability to have a ski with, before the family got out of bed.

I'll finish with some extra pics from this morning on Crystal Chair. Thx everyone. :)
