If you don’t want to work it’s not so hard. A working visa for someone over 35 is hard.

From my (a few year old) research it is not that simple. It gives you more points to be educated, but to get things recognised takes time (I did it). You also get points for a language test (also did it). Then a plethora of other things including age. The knockout blow is a job offer with an LMO on the job (advertised unsuccessfully for 3 months, and some other stuff), almost impossible to get from afar.

If you are with a company that has a presence in Canada and can get an in company transfer things become much easier, but I wasn't and decided not to go that way. This is what MS did, and it worked well for him in the end, but it was a few years in the making. He did well, but I don't think he would attest that it was easy, and to be honest, I don't have the drive he has.

Anyway, I am no longer in a position to do it since a major change in circumstance 3+ years ago, so *insert french saying of choice here*.......life is still good!

Why didn't you just say so.....opportunity lost!

yeah...didnt say it would be easy, and your a perfect candidate..... We looked 20 years ago, passed all the stuff and nearly pulled the trigger but had surprise child instead, Like you we looked to move with company but then those avenues dried up. I am now chasing a different career to give me even more quals to make me a necessary person loving the change here in Aus at the moment.
that said they are running the lottery at the moment so it is easier than normal.

Marrying a Canadian citizen is by far the most straightforward way. I was expecting my move to take a lot more time than it did. I had my permanent residence (which gives right to live, work, pay tax etc; just not vote, get consular assistance or work in some government jobs) in less than six months from applying, which was way faster than we expected. Mind you, we'd been together for over 20 years and had strong ties to Canada (we married in Vancouver; still have family here etc).

I realise that avenue isn't open to everyone!

It’s not a lottery. It’s a points system. They used to have a monthly intake.

Pretty sure I was still looking when Trudeau got in. In any event the link above appears to be as it was.

Express entry system. You could call it a lottery, but it is more accurately described as a points system to rank eligibility.

They decide on a number of people and then publish the lowest number of points that a person who was invited to apply had achieved.

Well I guess ya better marry a Canadian then. We've had some high profile bigamy trials in recent years, if you're a fundamentalist Mormon you'll prolly get away with it.

That's spot on. An applicant for express entry (or International Experience Canada (IEC)) still needs to meet all of the eligibility criteria (fundamental eligibility such as not being criminally inadmissible to Canada, and the points based criteria such as language skills, work experience, Canadian family etc). The slightly random aspects are that the quotas aren't fixed, the points required to be invited to submit a full application for permanent residence vary between rounds, and there can be multiple "rounds" of invitations in any given year.

I was puzzled (and worried) by the references to a "lottery". So far as I know it's never been called that here in Canada (cf in the US, where there's something known colloquially as the "green card lottery" (formally the diversity immigrant visa program)). There was a Nigerian and Ghanaian scam running last year which falsely referred to Canada running an immigration lottery (see https://www.cicnews.com/2018/01/web...sa-lottery-application-0110149.html#gs.0zpn35).

sorry if I have mislead people, although all the Canadian friends and business I have been discussing immigration with off and on have always referenced the recent changes to the lottery .... This goes hand in hand with the points system although the lottery gave you a slightly better chance than in the past........increasing intake numbers on occasion and variable in when they offered...hence lotto.

A third of the fun is waiting around for the season to kick-off, and then wonder, will the snow be good or bad when we are there.

I'll be there nearly all season. That takes the weekly punt out of the equation.

As I say, it will snow, it will be cold and we will ski.

I've seen 5cm forecasts 24 hours out turn into 30cm dumps. I've seen 30cm dumps fizzle to 5cm.

Early forecasts for a frigid winter in Europe.

It will be what it will be. :)

I agree with most of what you just said. There will be snow and you'll have a ball.
But long term forecasts are largely a guessing game.
I believe the 'blob' off the PNW coast is a feature just now. Will it be a feature come winter?
How did Sun Peaks cope in 14/15 the last time the blob decimated most BC resorts snowpack? It may have coped better than some of the lower hills?

Will the blob be a feature come winter? Maybe, maybe not.

Or maybe that moisture will get picked up out of the ocean and be hit by cold outbreaks giving us lots of powder.

    Nothing particularly bad about 2014-2015.

2014-2015 was down for Whistler. Remember having a lot of coastal snow refugee's from Whistler who were surprised how good our snow was.

Sun Peaks was OK. Hundreds of km inland for a start.

Winter just past was below average (just take a look at BC river levels at the moment), before that we had 5 above average or excellent seasons in a row. The blob hurt offshore fishing but didn't do any noticeable harm to interior ski resorts.

About another month till the first snows. And then lots more till April next year!

Had a problem with my hot tub. It was overtime slowly sinking on one side.

Summer - time for repairs and maintenance.

New concrete pad built over the summer.

    great shots there!!

How aggressive or risky are the bears, especially those in the village?

What is the process if you walk out of your hotel and there's a bear staring at you?
