Hey guys Flying to Bali next week for a holiday. First o/s trip with two little bubs. Looking for a place we can park the car. I refuse to give Macquarie airport the $$$ for parking there for nearly 2 weeks but need the car for car seats etc (and noone can drop us). I'll drop the wife and bubs off and then go and park somewhere for free. Any suggestions where I might be able to go and leave the car for a long period of time? Thinking streets of mascot/kingsford but looking for some suggestions pls! thx
You can not park your car in sydney, free for 2 weeks. You cant even park for 20 mins without paying through the nose. Get an airport transfer or catch a bus/train.
I've previously used: - The official long stay carpark - Park & fly Both have been fine and are very similar distance with regular shuttle services.
what about this? Sydney Airport Long Term Park $95 / 15 days long term parking. it should be much safer than just leaving it on the street and I am sure you can get from there to the International terminal without much trouble
Male announcer: The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in a red zone. Female announcer: The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in a red zone. Male announcer: The red zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in a white zone. Female announcer: No, the white zone is for loading. Now, there is no stopping in a RED zone. Male announcer: The red zone has always been for loading. Female announcer: Don't you tell me which zone is for loading, and which zone is for unloading. Male announcer: Look Betty, don't start up with your white zone shit again. There's just no stopping in a white zone. Female announcer: Oh really, Vernon? Why pretend, we both know perfectly well what this is about. You want me to have an abortion. Male announcer: It's really the only sensible thing to do, if its done safely. Therapeutically there's no danger involved.
There is an industrial estate at Botany adjacent to Foreshore Road (where it meets Southern Cross Drive) that looks like unrestricted street parking (Luland St?) on Google Street View. Wouldn't Tempe/Arnecliffe be closer for International Terminal?
You leave your car parked in the street around mascot for two weeks chances are the car will not be there when you get back. better spot is near tempe...close to the train stations 10 mins walk to airport
Maybe someone on here local might let you park the car at their place for a small fee, and drop you off after you drop off the wife and kids?
Yeah thats good advice, or just go a couple of stops one way or the other on the airport line, and find a park near a train station, then use the train.
There's Mascot, Green Square and Central, none of which is a very good choice. Around here there are various unrestricted parking spots, then it's about $30 in the taxi. Any closer to the airport it's industrial so maybe not so safe.
Awesome work jaysmith - 3 posts, all identical, advertising parking... Information sharing among the ski and board community is welcome. Spamming us with free advertising is not.
Two free options. Ride your motorscooter and park in the car park right next to the pedestrian crossing to the terminal. Hop on and ride out for free. I do it regularly. The car park attendants tell you that they don't charge for bikes. There is no motorcycle ticket and the car park is totally porus so just ride out through the multiple gaps and go. Second. It is a 15 minute walk to Botany road. Free car parking near there. For $80 I am happy with a 15 minute walk. If we fly as a family we do this. My wife collects the bags, usually takes at least 15 to 20 minutes, I walk to the car and drive back and pick them up. Very simple. Free.
this enquiry is about the international terminal, yes? so you're looking at parking in Arncliffe, Turrella or maybe Tempe or Rockdale
Park at the Rowing Club. Walk across the bridge to international terminal. 10 mins. it is exactly 900 meters to the terminal. Alternately you can park in Tempe reserve playing fields car park and walk to the International Terminal. 1.1 Km about 11 mins. Treat it like being paid $60 for going for a walk.
Probably only suitable for the domestic terminal (or $25 cab ride to Int'l) but the west end of Coward St Mascot has no parking signs and ppl that work in the area park there all day without any dramas.
You can park free with Carhood. Its a new car sharing service, kind of like Airbnb but for cars at the airports. You get free airport parking, a free car detail and some money by sharing your car to other travellers whilst you are away. Its all fully insured as well. They just opened up in Sydney and already have sites in Melbourne & Brisbane. Such a good idea!
This done it a few times. Now I live in the inner city I don't worry. Before YK had a parking permit he used to have to drive his car a few blocks away from where we live when we went skiing for a week - nothing happened. Anyway - you have car insurance?
If you do use the long term parking, book on line as it is about half the price as drive in and take a ticket. Taxi ride from Rosebery to air port about $30 each way.
^^^ Also, if you register with them they send you notification of their parking sales. I've had some good deals in the past.
Yep. In January I used to park for bugger nothing with Park 'n' Fly. IIRC it was almost free after the first week.
Yeah I was surprised about that and very glad I did book online. Pretty damn good value for undercover, relatively secure parking. Only a Short walk with the kids and luggage to the terminal too.
FYI same at Tullamarine, the actual airport long-term is the cheapest option (we compared like 6 options?) as long as you book online & pre-pay.
Only thing I'd say is to remember that when you finish the holiday, you're going to have to do an overnight red-eye back from Bali with two small kids and 300 Bintang singlet wearing, beer-infested bogans (I know, I know - stereotypes). You're going to land in Sydney early morning, then have to clear immigration and customs, by which point the kids are going to be cranky and tired and you're just going to want to get them in the car and start driving again in the desperate, vain hope that they'll fall back asleep. So at that point you may not want the car to be too far away or to difficult to get to.
Trains the cheapest to get there etc, if everyone's on board with the idea. Then do the same when returning here, or get a cab home.
Just easier to get the train straight there, taxi fares will outweigh any other saving plus you'll have extra hassles.
From Canberra if flying my tip is go to Tullamarine and fly directly o/s from Tullamarine on a plane whose next port of call is outside Australia. Sydney's a Sh17Storm if any late evening outbound flights get delayed with curfews etc.
Seriously I just can't get onboard with the train... Every freaking time I train it I end up getting affected by track work. I had this brilliant plan last week - drove to work with our ski gear. YK bused it in ($2.10) then we both got on the train to the airport - $14 ea Taxi from home would have cost about $35. On Sunday we debated catching a taxi - queues was no existent (sometimes that makes you not want to take one!) but i stupidly said "nah lets get the train..." We got down there and found out about trackwork - it took us an hour to get home (taxi would have been 20mins) and i was mad but not mad enough to walk back to taxi rank.
Resurrecting this thread, as I contemplated fly drive parking. but at $192 i am better off catching a taxi. last night it was $62. one way.
I lived near UNSW and worked in Botany and I reckon the best you can do for unrestricted on-street parking in a nice residential area, is a 10-15 minute taxi ride away. You've got to go a fair way. That may or may not be worth it, but there's no epic local secrets. If you were to park in Botany, I don't think theft or vandalism would really be an issue, but it would be filthy and likely to be bumper parked or scratched (weekday commuter parking was very competitive).
CBF! It was self drive or cab... cab won! (notwithstanding a bus super early on a sunday morning? yeah nah!)
Train for the win. Unless you are driving to airport before 5:30 am the traffic is a nightmare. New traffic management regime is designed to discourage private cars from driving to the airport.
