having said that, I'm missing nearly 3 years' worth of 'your content'
serious ? what is 'your content'
So......how much sleep did @Richard and @Ian D get last night?
it's one of the items on a menu that drops down when I touch my name up on the top right of the page
it's about 2/3 of the way down the menu
it's useful for finding recent discussions
May 12 2014 is where my gap in" your content "starts
Haha yeah I saw the site was down yesterday and though "poor blokes are having a terrible weekend".
it must have been a shocker, and a huge issue to keep the site offline for so long
yep, same here
I'm sure it wasn't a particularly special day
longest offline ever.
after about 8 hours you realise;
a. It cant get any worse - so going overnight ain't going to make any difference.
b. It's just a forum and some snow cams when there is no snow on the ground and won't be for months, so not truly critical.
If it was winter - different kind of panic
OK - the table with all the trouble is repaired not rebuilt 'search_index'
It is the biggest table in the DB and strongly suspect this is why there is a gap. It takes about 3 hours to rebuild and the rebuild process crashed at 11:40 last night at which point I gave up and decided to tackle again this morn.
The underlying problem db server disk space. Which is choked with GB's of spam on the mail server from a couple of long forgotten and unused accounts. So clean up required and new rules for mail server.
The good news, issue has pushed along decisions for new host. Have almost settled on AWS architecture for migration.
So what are exactly did trappers do?
ditto for me
what @trappers did was to send his entire archive of emails back through the old Mods List and email servers, and posted some Hi Def video teaser...
It's all about him...
hardly a loss!
3 years of MY content!!!!!
That's like losing the Rosetta Stone!
What a loss for humanity!
SSL wildcard certificate purchased this morning
( @JoeKing )
Are you sure you won't lose any more tables? What if I send a PM? Will a message from Robert'); DROP TABLE students;-- cause another problem?
Oh the stress @Richard . Green Roof same time Saturday.
Different scenario when you have paying customers. Just saying.
Boys you gotta get things in order Neo S is about to tackle Townsend Spur the hard way and his photos will feature the best effort of the year most probably.....but respect for all the hard work some of you have put in on this restoration.
Bears could offer some more solid platforms but I am sure that would not go done well to some of the sleep deprived administrators. Thanks for your dedication
The first eight hours I was not so relaxed, because... paying customers
However, big difference to decide to spend your money on Sunday emergency rates with a tech at 11:45 pm v's Mon morning regular rates at 7:30.
and that's how it played out
That I can understand.
I'm grieving for those misspent hours
Shut happens with technology .....so glad you guys are whizzes
just to be clear
I wasn't complaining that I couldn't find a post from 17 October 2015, only pointing out that a function had been affected by the outage
'your content' is great for finding stuff from the past few days, so it wouldn't matter to me if it became 'your recent content' if it would reduce the bloatage
There's tacks a to d, and then there's tack e.
@cold wombat will get this notification if his theory is correct.. but @Ian D and @Richard won't.
@Richard you will get this one
indeed I did
Perhaps it is because I watch the other sub forum that I got that one and not this one.....
Which makes me realise I shoild watch this one as well!
Conclusion: If you edit a post to add @ tags, they won't trigger. If you want to tag someone, do it in a new post rather than editing an existing post.
I editted @Ian D and @Richard in after initial post.
@cold wombat will have to stumble upon this via thread watching.
Correct. No notification.
