I also prefer the 850 temps rather than the depth(occasionally you can have a lower level cold layer that doesn't greatly affect the depth at 500hPa but you still get snow..and the 850 temp helps keep an eye on that scenario too)...although I can get extremely excited at depths around the 524 level
Just a quick question regarding the 144 GFS SH chart.
After the high thats over SE Australia clears - there doesn't seem to be another High pressure until you get all the way back to off the East coast of Africa.
My question is - Is this a good setup to allow the polar air to come further north (the entire strip beween WA and Madagascar) and hit sothern Australia, as there is no high to block it in the northward direction?
