It's pretty bad...
I'd get better O2 from a smoker's lounge.
Decent offshore on the bridge as well.
Pity all the smoke to windward.
Its pretty ****ed up. Wonder how many people have died this time around.
shhhhh ... the benefits outway the cost (to lives) they say
Think I'll head down that way tomoz just to get away from the smoke. Its making everyone sick. MrsG and my 4 y.o both have a cough, I've had a headache for about 1 week, starting get pretty wheezy too. Our house is sealed up pretty tight but its still getting in. Cant imagine what it would be like in some of the old drafty weatherboard places in the BM's and Western Sydney ATM.
Meanwhile in Melbourne... a rather grey day after very mild conditions greeted my arrival yesterday:
Team Bears have the washing off the line!
Looked kinda threatening.....my humans have amazing perception!
Return inside....check out BOM site.....radar says incoming!
Warnings current for damaging winds in NE. Apparently approx 15degs in city ..
Breaky......sure enough rain on roof in Glen Iris!
Rollerblading May be off today for Melb folks.
At least we are not smoked out like Sydney.
Pitta patter on roof now.....light rain and looks a little breezy .
We wonder if Claude Cat got to work without incident on his bike?
What is that?Stratonimbus cover?
Yeah she's gloomy and raining out my office window this morning. It's nice, I can open the blind for a change as it's usually far too bright.
Ants in royal park building very very high. Do they know something we dont see in forecast?
Ants probably more accurate than our models!
Pity we cannot decipher their ant talk to make more precise weather predictions.
Are those ants hauling around sandbags? That could be a worry?
I know down where I live, west of Melbourne they do seem to burn the same areas every couple of years, the areas that are left alone seem to be always in better condition.
Left alone - check the fuel this is up higher in that area
Now the area that has "FRBs" - seems to me fuel increase burns
Note this is all in the state forest west of Melbourne (Wombat)
Another section left alone - less fuel
just putting it out there - Sometimes I think the burn offs are to stop any blame games if a fire comes through as when it does go down, you do hear a lot of people stating there is too much fuel, "that is why I lost my house", had nothing to do with the 40 degree day with 80kmh winds. Grass fires in conditions like that burn down houses and sheds.
I really think they need to do a lot more research into this.
Again sorry off topic, but I am still seeing photos of that smoke around Sydney and it makes me think is it necessary.
Funny you say that because for the last week the local footpaths (Dubbo) have been covered in scurrying ants. Like i've never seen before.
Ahhh good stuff. Would of been a bit soggy up there this weekend. Perfect timing. Falls should have a lovely white blanket for your proposal.
I'll check the paddocks and see if ants are going into reinforcement mode (building up around the entrances). They do that before heavy rain.
Its very nice down here.
Just did 26kms pro hour beachside . Clear air and light winds.
Few crew still swimming as well.
Drive from Canberra to Raymond Terrace yestarday aftenoon and no smoke but on to Ballina today. Quite smoky around Barrington Tops where it must have been trapped but otherwise very clear.
But also GAGF
Meanwhile in Colorado
Realising that the main event(s) are a way off....the weather is slowly turning cooler.
Temps at Perisher have dropped 5 degrees since 11:30 and rain starting to show on cams and the BOM station there also recording some light rain.
It’s colder here at Moonbah as well....fireplace on!
Incoming coolant observed.
da fetch !!!
I'll just add this in here for interest sake.
Certainly adds favourably to the equation .
Maybe get the wood into those wood shelters while going is good.
Certainly winding up to our west!
Window of clear sunny weather over Melb fir last few hours.
Team Bears got in their rollerblade befire the Bike menace hit the tracks.
Warning is current...
Not entirely sure what to make of this because the progression looks ok, given the current Southern Circ.
It's unsupported by anything as yet, so I'll just leave it here for giggles, for now.
When was the last time we had a meter base top to bottom before the season even opened
But, let's leave the porn at the door 'til that falls again.
Hi all....im after an 8-9 day forecast for central vic....doing a very large burn off, looking at next friday am for porno for pyros time...but need to line up dozers etc which means getting it $right
Seymour forecast goes out to next thurs but to me it looks like a frontathon clearing away wednesdayish to a fat high....so few showers thurs, nothing much fri, sunny sat sun...yeah,?
Cheers for any insights
Saturday! With a halo, albeit flogger of a High over Seymour, it seems about right for you, RN.
Think slack-wind, clear, winter conditions for Saturday IMO.
Cheers @POW_hungry! We usually need a little breeze to get the fire moving along the windrows (each is 2-3m high 6-10m wide x up to 50m long) so maybe light friday if not too wet and then push em in with the dozer after the first burn and watch into sat sun.
Slack winds sat sun is perfect as by then its the stumps and logs and cool temps keep cfa and neighbours happy and my public liability intact.
It should be pretty dry by Friday.
Sounds like a good timeline there IMO.
This was a few weeks ago.
Gotta get there. Amazing image.
Access is a bitch - thought my van was going to fall apart on the way out and back. The lake itself can't really be appreciated from the ground. We were going to do a flight but i don't think the water was quite there so wasn't going to shell out $1500 to see salt pan. I was most impressed with the black landscape on the western side of ABC Bay. Quite contrast against the white lake. Daughter got crook on the way back out after sampling salt from the lake. Then spent the next day vomiting every 30 minutes as we drove the 15hr or so back to Dubbo! Tough little cookie didn't complain once.
My Twitter is lit up with alot of Tornados on the ground in the mid west today.
Something different in Melb ....it’s raining ....it was a breezy day without rain till about 6pm.
Temp was mild/warm today .
A few more areas added to the warning zone..
Oh that’s what it’s all about
We were not too far behind last year. This year looks better
We still don’t....
It’s moving off from
eco-centric Melb ...never sounded like heavy rain as it passed through.
We had had a lot of short sharp bursts in the outer east
GFS signalling a system through the south east on the 9th (second time).
Whilst GFS and EC going for potentially a brief weak front on next Sunday/Monday.
Must be cool up at BawBaw.
Even the aliens there in that UFO like those snow mounds
Tennis could present problems at Mt Bulla
Very windy down if Middle Park Beach Bike path ....cool/cold no rain so far...
Lots of folk out and about!
Hotham looking cold!
Bit of action coming Melbs way..
