Yes definitely. Has a clear correlation with snowfall in the Aussie Alps among other things.

Was thinking of posting a proper article on my website about the correlations and posting some of the mountains of data I have on it.

Not a whole lot of rain so far. Still haven't made it to 10mm. Hopefully something decent this afternoon with cooler air aloft.

Bit of a Long-wave trough around here in about a week's time. A South-westerly would be nice.

Had a decent rainstorm an hour ago. Dumped 25mm in some places in town in less than 30 minutes. And yet some areas nearby got next to nothing. Hit or miss.

Had a terrific storm pass through last night 1955 to 2115 , 37mm in that timeframe with winds reaching 75kmh , lightning strikes..............basically the full show. Followed up with another 26mm from 2325 to 1245 today. First decent rain event since early November.

It may not be your modem that's the issue, the DSLAM at the exchange end might have copped it. If your modem was not plugged in at all, I'd find it hard to believe that it's somehow failed. Was it still connected to the computer or local network connection?

Another possibility is that the modem was close to dying anyway, and power cycling (ie turning it off and back on) was the last straw.

Just off the phone to Telstra, there is an ADSL outage from the storm. ADSL should be restored by 7.00 pm tomorrow.
Firies up the road, as apparently a gas main was struck causing a significant leakage.
We have an ironstone vein that runs from the top of the hill, 1111M, under us, that on occasions nukes various electrical appliances.
    First world thunderstorm problem :)

Next group of incoming storms lined up from Wellington NSw to Lithgow NSW. There's a chance the whole lot will come through here (Mt Victoria NSW) and provide more entertainment tonight.

    Good to see.

Nice little semi cut-off low working it's way down over SW WA at moment, season break rainfall for some of us, 20mm in the gauge over last couple hours, heaviest still to come.

GFS pinging an upgrade to the deep cold outbreak for Tas around the 30th (highlight by @jwx late last week). It's got all the hallmarks of a sou-wester winter system if GFS is anything to go by. Snow ~1100m at this stage.

EC supports it but to a slightly lesser degree. Short sharp system is more likely given the ridging and time of year IMO.

-25 at 500mb heights over Tassie is quite impressive given the time of year.
