Nah, not in the Blue Lake catchment and not in one of the no camping zones as I understand them. Depends what you define as the catchment though.

Used to hitch from Jindy caravan to Perisher regularly in the 80s. Some interesting rides indeed

The young Norwegian friend we took out to TAtes on Sunday was pretty proud of herself when we looked back at our tracks up the hill from Guth trig, zigzag skin track vs her vertical climb.

and yes remember when chainsawing those little obstacles its not good enough to cut a 4foot piece out of the way T.Bears want you to mount the batter and cut the bitch at the top end and also to cut it at the outer road lip too...

some of the techniques we see are worse than boot packing in the skin tracks problem...

It isn't as if they didn't know!

So busy, counted over 40 people on the Saturday out and about (and that was just in the Kosi to Albina area. Luckily there was nobody in lower Wilkinsons.

So you are saying water births in Glacial remnant lakes is a no no?

A mate got a ticket on the Monaro heading out of canberra from the fixed camera. I said, how did you not see the 100 signs? He said, who reads signs?

    Makes it a bit tough.

Heading out of Canberra just before the Tuggers roundabout? That camera is in an 80 km/hr zone...

No discipline from some of the boys.....some of you may not be providing good role models...

we did mention earlier somewhere ..well maybe in another thread...that cowboys on main range not a good thing...
any scuffles braking out... sad that Main Range is turning into a circus everybody doing a"Malcolm" out for themselves....
    ahh the Everest Factor!!!!!

hope KNP out an about on skidoos dealing with new guns.....:)

The more you bash up anyone that spends time on the Main Range (aforementioned idiots aside), the more unwelcome you are up here. Leave the Bullsh$t out of it Steve. The constant slagging could see you punched by cowboys on the Main Range.

...and yes your arguments are perfectly welcome minus the rest....how's that for etiquette.

Is camping exclusion for glacial lakes well signposted?

Sadly, it's been years since I've been out on the MR, although even I know well and truly that you ain't welcome camping in the catchments these days.

Its signed well at CP, but not at the top of Thredbo and other areas. I think they rely on people searching out information, rather than just heading out. I have had to tell people quite a few times. As intimated in a few hotly contested threads, we are going to be seeing a lot more ignorant behaviour out there (already seeing quite an increase personally), management will become a bigger issue.

How do you not camp in a catchment? or are these specific catchments in which camping is a no-no?

The catchments are the cirque's above the 5 lakes on the mainland dammed by terminal moraines. The no camping areas would be a couple of hundred hectares in total.

Cool, that makes more sense. Good to see you lot know what a terminal moraine is too. Are they all definitely moraines?

Yes, they are some of the last few glacial lake remnants in Australia, the only ones I think on the mainland? From memory I think Blue Lake is 32m deep?

I've dive Blue Lake. Cracked 29.5 metres at the bottom. A face sucking 12C. 2 metre viz before you stirred up the muck, then nothing.

A good experience. I won't be hurrying back.

    cheers LBC

Team Bears are wondering is there truth in the rumour spreading down over the border that you guys on Main Range are staging the PooTube Festivel sometime in November....we havenot been given invitations but would like to attend this colourful event of the mountaineering elite on Mt Carruthers...
is this a beat up or is this a serious festivel driven by the ego conscious of up and coming mountaineers of NSW...

south of the border some interest is being generated by the colourful stories of a poo tube festivels held in other geographical locations.....LOL

How do people feel about gennies? If parks could put some in, and leave some fuel, it would be great to be able to watch some telly! But then the etiquette question would be, which game do you watch, if there are more than one code playing the same night? What time should the telly be turned off? Im thinking 200cm flat screens in all huts.

This backcountry etiquette is harder than I thought!

Potentilly have a gennie area and you get permits to be able to plug in. But you have to have a camping permit as well. And dunny tickets.
