Obviously a different k2k then the one that is more commonly discussed here
Indeed but pretty arduous .
Season opener for me was a day up on Spion Kopje Sunday (yesterday)
Not as much cover as I thought there was going to be.
Mount Bogong looked good
The south side still had the goods.
Mount Feathertop & Fainters
And this odd looking Main Range
Wow. B looks good, but Main Range looks v v flat. Please explain?!
Last year @Scrap and self came across a group of uni types drilling holes in the ice and bed of Blue lake. Couple of weeks ago I met one of the scientists at ANSTO that then analyzed the cores, sweet as.
It took me 3 days! Given the 6 foot track marathon is done in just over 3 hours now and is only 10km shorter it shows how hard the K2K is in comparison. I could only manage the 6 foot marathon in 5:45hrs. Good effort from these guys.
I wonder if they are considering a 3 peaks effort?
Today, and they were very much not dead.
I have a theory that folks of load feed for them here in the Winter.
Great piccy. There's some snow!
It's on at DHG then. Watched a bloke make a dead horse snow man in front of the sign last year
It was wet snow, but should have firmed up overnight.
New board/Bindings/Skins finally arrived, time to head up shortly
hi guys, does anyone know if there is a main range snow report anywhere? Saw one but it keeps saying Charlotte pass is main range.
Wilderness Sports has a daily update
Nice set up, I've been looking at getting a split board but looking costly. If you don't mind can I ask how much the whole set up cost you? Including skins
Does something similar exist for Vicco, by chance? I don't recall seeing anything like it.
About 2k including skins bindings and pucks.
1050 board, 600 bindings, 100 pucks, 250 skins
Could have probably got it cheaper if i bought off shore, but I like to support local
Thredbo AWS tells you the wind.
And look at the Perisher Kosi cam
Grey screen = put your feet up
(or head for the trees)
If I had my old completely selfish life-work/life balance situation, I'd currently be skinning to the top of the northern Ramshead to drop the colouir and spend the day in the best aussie pow BC zone there is. From what I read on swellnet I suspect @SAsurfa is doing that right now
I hears ya
But luckily my business case to go surfing tomorrow has got up, the family might even come
Every chance the snow will be off by tomorrow, there'll be pockets of goodness, but not carte blanche like today.
Certainly some swell up today.
I might try some sidecoutry out of Thredbo Sunday while the lad is training.
Mates already out on the main-range and it looks epic. I'm smashing out work at Jindy and meeting them late arvo for an overnight camp. Hoping there's still some sweet lines tomorrow!
I might try and stalk you
NZ BC today.
Stay at home!!
lucky someone gave a parking spot at DHG. Was shit up there anyway NOT
I was wondering
Deja vu....I tell myself regularly that it's short term pain for long term gain
Chateau Dirt Bag
Skins on the drying rack.
Don't wait for retirement - endless time and end-stage joints
Looks v v comfy.
My plan assumes new-for-old joint replacement will be commonplace.....i hope
First big day of the season. 20km, 2000m vertical change. Needed to test the body, still not 100% after crashing in japan in february.
Bootpacked/skinned from GAR - brandy creek trail - paling spur - around the headwaters of bundara river.
Day pack weight sooo much lighter with new skis and bindings, and much easier walking in tlt7s.
Clearly paling spur is rarely used. Overgrown and not the easiest to follow at times.
Plenty of snow above 1600m on bhp. However needs a top up, otherwise itll melt off and bushes will poke thru. Needs more snow to weigh them down.
The views from the 1700m knoll near youngs hut my god everybody should see that under snow.
Last 5km were full trudge mode. Got back in the dark.
Mega views of feathertop / hotham complex.
Coverage in youngs hut area
Victorian approaches. Always a river to cross
Great views from paling spur
Cool window insulation. Bought or DIY? Looks very well set up!
Delilah the Delica
On the website it says "eliminating 80% of condensation". What is your experience?
They certainly do reduce condensation, 80% maybe wishful thinking.
Certainly increase the warmth factor.
Nice. Have a similar trip planned with one of my kids, maybe staying youngs...
Them Perisher buses have the heat turned up.....exciting way to travel...and then a big Bon fire to brighten up the NSW travellers.
Bogong Saturday, it felt like I had it all to myself!
I was hanging out for in-situ regrowth from injected stem cells but the physio says dream on.
So it was Jaywoo that made up the avi storey about Bogong earlier so he could have the place to himself when it mattered.
Headed up bogong on Saturday & sunday. Getting keen
@SAsurfa - good to see you getting a hard time om Swellnet about choosing snow over surf weekend just gone . Saturday looked good on the range, but would've been a bit windy on Sunday, definitely was in Queanbeyan, although interestingly there wasn't much difference in the wind obs between Thredders top and Cbr airport
