I've recently undergone a mid life crisis and finally got a big 4WD so I took the opportunity to scope out granite flat spur

This makes it look way snowier than it is, I just framed it for effect to try and looks badass!!

For anyone trying to get up granite flat, there's a log on the track but a mate of mine is heading up friday with a chainsaw so it should be gone by then. It seemed to be towards the end of the track in any case and there were a couple of places to park off the track if you possess some advanced driving and bush parking techniques.

Surely someone is still out there pounding the BC, any pics/reports?
Phone call from someone on Bogong today. I guess that is the place to be at the moment. Still good cover and good conditions. Fairly patchy on BHP but still enough if you are keen. The road still has a few good drifts on it south of Mt. Cope track to Langford West last I saw it (Wednesday) but 40 plus mm of rain the other night should have weakened it. No plans to open it this month as yet.

And was out at Kozi today, the loss of cover over the last week is startling. This view is to Twynam.

The slopes below the Kozi cornice are very close to vertical now, so there is the usual but more of it cornice collapes happening.

Did some turns off Kozi in cloud and did not look back. Found another slope on the way back for some turns, very hard work in the afternoon slooop. But very satisfying.

Great update skifree.

If your camera allows, set EV to +1 when taking snowy photos. Your camera is underexposing because it wants to make the white snow 18% grey.

I should add I got out early, too early for the chair it turned out. So all around for the best part of the morning I was above the cloud.

Dropped by Cootapatamba Hut, did not go inside.

And got up into the Ramsheads, there is a lot of snow up there, I ws surprised. But most of the bowl will be cooked out over the next couple of days. This would be the North Ramshead.

Quite some melt since I was there on last day of Thredbos ski season.

Is the seasons closure gate open by accident....I assumed it was still locked?certainly if you can gain the first little Saddle by vehicle it puts you well up on this approach.Seasons Closures are not usually open till the Thursday preceding the Melb Cup?Even Mr T has seen the light and has got himself something with 4x4 capability.Very nice pics of your snow trip. The new forest road up to Granite Flat Turn Off and further to The Hollow(where old track used to come out)is very negotiable with a good surface and drainage.

Had to drive Albury to Canberra today so packed my skis and went the long way via dead horse gap. Walked /skinned up had a few runs above the tree line, bit of lunch and continued on my way.

Was a bit pissed to find 3 empty beer bottles just left in the snow. They went to the effort of carrying them out there, how hard would it be to carry them out to the road. Its all downhill. I know the world is full of thoughtless pricks but its sad when you realise they even manage to go back country. Could of at least left me a full one as payment for carrying the empties out.
