    Red letter day today!

I received a delivery from Twelve boardstore that means my splitboard setup is now properly functional, without needing to use a screwdriver every time I want to go from touring to downhill mode! Now I have a pair of shiny new Karakoram Ultra Clips holding the two halves together, so I'm very happy.

So honest John Barilaro worried about the Rona wants to close the NSW/VIC border to prevent Mexicans coming to the NSW snowfields.

While I don’t have the Party Pox I’m still intending to ski out of Guthega from Melbourne if there is snow.

Does this impact transit passengers? Most SA & WA folks looking to fly into to ski need to transit MEL or SYD to get to CBR due to a lack of direct flights for a while.

All Gladys has said is to warn off NSW residents from going to Melbourne for non-essential travel. She’s not closing NSW to inbound travel.

Will he or the NSW fuzz be policing the border at the Barry way or near Khancoban / Corryong in mid winter? I think not. The Federation of states is not looking very unified at present.

I saw this in the NPWS website for the KNP.
"To cater for an increase in backcountry activities this snow season, Cascades trail head and Dead Horse Gap carparks are available, at this stage for day parking only".
So in theory you could get up early having camped at Geehi flats, park at the Cascades car park and XC ski out to Cascade hut or Teddy's hut and back in a day in August if you are fit and can ski OK.

The Commonwealth exists for one reason, collecting income tax! The Federation has never worked. It took 40 years of arguing between Vic/NSW and Canberra just to build that little road through Albury/Wodonga!

So, have ordered some bike packing kit, and need to sort some other gear (its been a while).

If I decide not to drop the coin on a new sleep pad, would you

Go the old Downmat, knowing you will have to pump it up again through the night (has a slow leak), with a foamy under

    or

Go the synthetic mat that isn't quite warm enough, with a foamy on top

Probably. That quote was from at least ten days ago, in a rapidly evolving information flow, when rumours were floating around about how Perisher and NPWS were going to be limiting numbers.

I still think that DHG touring will be troublesome.

I really couldn't care less if the resorts negotiate road closures or not, as long as BC access remains open.

Id try to find and fix the leak on the Downmat but I'm guessing you've already done that. If not, I have had good success spraying soapy water all over the mat until it starts bubbling where the leak is.

Sometimes the valve can get dirty and cause the leak. A quick wipe with a cloth or a spray with compressed air seems to work for my Thermarests.

Nothing wrong with the foam either, just bulkier I guess.

I always carry a foamy, its a seat, and if your mat fails, it saves you. They weigh FA, but yes are bulky, easy to strap on anywhere though.

The leak is really really slow, might be the valve. Not sure about using water with a downmat!

If it's an older downmat, it's probably leaking slowly through the fabric. The inneroinner coating in the older models will eventually hydrolyze and then it starts leaking, slowly but surely, not through a whole or the valve but everywhere. The newer models (mine aren't that new anymore) with the integrated pump haven't had the same issue (at least not yet).
    Time for a new mat!

Anyone had a look at or been out on the Main Range recently? Worth a quick jaunt up Tate or Twynam or is there not enough cover?

Haha, not having a go, but, the number of eager people asking about various areas... my reply would be, if you have to ask, then you are not experienced, and the best way to get experienced is go find out.

    And let us know.

Awesome, I missed that post. Looks OK, but I I guess we'll have to see how much loss we get over the next few days to see if the weekend is worthwhile.
You're not wrong about getting experienced TC, but isn't wisdom learning from the experience of others? ;)

I’ll let folks know what the main range looks like at the end of next week. And what the overnight parking is like at DHG :)

Might be able to give mr T an idea what the bushwalking is like out there as well.

Of course, my work trip finishes up just as the next weather system arrives, so it won’t mean anything...

of course KNP, Snowy Tourism & Council and NSW DOT could get together and do a ‘Queenstown’ and fund some bloody shuttle buses. Sorry it’s lame to ban parking at DHG and have Car Parks full early in the day, limits to the Ski Tube capacity and not offer a comprehensive bus service.

All these parties will be complaining about a lack of tourists and tourist $ post season, scratching heads and wondering why? :rolleyes:LOL

Was up there today in the same area. Much the same. Akward gardening/ walk between Guthega & the suspension bridge, skiable, but soft sticky snow until it firms higher up.

My assumption would be that the said terrain would skiable in August and otherwise good luck. The same would apply to Guthega Power station to Horse camp Hut. The car park at the power station is not very high up so to have the skis on from the outset would also be an August thing.
