Maybe they should have asked instead about crampons or ski crampons, self arrest tools, navigation skills and giraffes!
Fark
Crampons, tick, shovel, tick, self arrest tools, tick, Plb, tick, gps, tick, maps, tick, compass, tick, survival bag, tick. Probe and beacon completely useless by yourself. They really have lost the plot at Thredbo! Next week it will be, do you have a $2000 Air Bag back pack?!

I enjoyed it for the most part but will probably buy some good boots next time and dump the silly load and go fast. This year was about Bro time and enjoying the scenery.
It’s such a great thing to be able to do no matter how you kit up. Skating it in 7 hours or taking lots of time, such a special place, its all a privilege.

You done it? Curious to know how the bush has faired
Haven't been up since the fires. Had a walk planned (hence calling the parks office to check it was open) but had to cancel it due to other commitments.

The bush to the south was absolutely scorched when we drove through in March. Hopefully it's recovered a bit with the recent rain.

Mawsons to O Keefes via Tarn Bluff- Jagungal saddle- anyone done this in green season ?
Not for a while, but a 'classic' alpine walk - very easy. Cross the Valentines at Big bend (easy rock hopping - dry feet). Over Tarn Bluff and onto the Geehi - another dry feet crossing - then stay on the ridge tops - much easier than the wet ground below

Day Toured again from Guthega up over Paralyser to Spencer’s and Ilawong. Cool circuit. Snow was rotten at 11.00 on sun exposed but some aspects in frost hollows and high up had ok spring snow. The high dark cloud cover helped. Probably 10 punters heading out with heavy packs. All on splits and AT. Is telemark touring/ skiing just not cool any more? ;) Saw a 3 echidna family on the road in .. cute.

Super fun trip out to Pretty Point and surrounds yesterday and today. I love visiting this area. Lots of exposed veg on the plains and pretty point was cooked. Oh well. Worth the sunset last night.

Great to see a report from a relatively unvisited but easy to access area. Seems like we left it a little late for this year though. When going around the 10k loop we were regularly tempted by the Thompson Plain sign. Did you use the tube for overnight parking?

I did unfortunately. There is signage up saying “no parking” at all my usual spots... Rennix and Rainbow lake for example.

drove around thru there yesterday arvo.
Clyde ridge road , Mogood lookout and further down to Corryong , etc.
was also out around Castle / Long gully the other week
the bush is slowly bouncing back.
some areas tho not so good - obviously insanely hot as the ground is still scorched bare.
Pidgeon House is still closed.

Would love to catch up with you and the crew. Do you reckon you could swing over Blue Lake way? If so I'd join you from Charlotte.

And give NvB my regards

looking to be far king warm so elevation will be our friend.
see how she goes first tours on snowshoes, rather than a split.
will also have another rookie in the posse.
so thinking the yo yo approach closer to home will be more user friendly.

I braved the DHG “skin track” hoping to ski Golden Gully but it was very shiny so I went down The Spur instead, the top was quite fast!

No one about.
From the bottom it was obvious that Golden Gulley has reverted back to a green season creek from halfway down.
Next year.....
Big freeze last night. Looks like it stayed solid up high. Still an ok cover all the way back to DHG?

One of those spots we is not alowed to visit until 2023. :(
006.jpg

Nice one. One of my favourite views.

I thought Oldfields was all good to visit? Or at least it was when I was there a few weeks back. Or do you mean the ACT side of Bimberi?

I’m pretty disheartened about the projected timeline for those parts of Namadgi to reopen. I don’t understand how Scabby Range and the NSW side of the border peaks are open but a step over the border and it’s all closed until 2023...

How’s that dozer ring around the hut eh?

Yeah. Oldfield is fine but no access to Bimberi Wilderness so once you reach Murray's Gap you are encroaching. It's crazy.

Normally we hit up western faces for our boys camping trips but for first time ever we're going north later this week, prolly camp near tin mine hut and have a sniff around Jagungal. May cross dam, and go via rolling grounds. Am assuming road up to schlink via munyang may be a bit thin for snow lower down? Anyone been out recently? Got any beta?

You are thinking of Tin Hut. Tin Mine Hut is wayyyy south of Jagungal near the Pilot.
