Fitness isn't what it was during ski season. However, with not ideal preparation (for many reasons) and much mental desire, smashed out a route i had wanted to do for a long time

Brandy Creek - paling spur - youngs top - mcnamaras hut - cobungra river - Hotham airport

29km 1000m vert gain in 5.5 hours. Given the navigational issues / amount of bushbash / cross-country / hot conditions - this was a good time. I also travelled super light and only had 1.5L of water and a beer

Thank god for avenza maps. The trail was mostly non existent, occasionally reappearing. Found it easier to forget about trying to follow it. The section between mcnamaras hut and cobungra was cooked, post fire grass bush bash. Even managed to get within metres of deer and they didn't even notice me

What a shame about the environmental damage by hooved animals on the youngs top area - water quality totally destroyed and SO much bog damage

Got back and was not feeling well until I forced some fish and chips in, came back to life

P.s. how did mcnamaras hut not burn down in the fires

So I saw this weekend that Thredbo, who are on the sh*t list for an increasing amount of stuff lately, now have a liftie at top station in summer checking passes before allowing you to download. Gasp.

They still can't scan them though, so I suggest throwing an old empty RFID card in the pack before any DHG/Hannels/Main Range/AAWT trips where you intend to finish at Thredbo.

Edit: though I'd love to see someone try it with a Perisher pass "No, it's EPIC, that means it's valid everywhere!"

At least it’s all downhill from there.
If it’s a definite policy change they need to advertise it with their reasoning so their street cred doesn’t plummet anymore.

There's a new sign at the top next to the download area saying "A valid lift ticket is required to use the Thredbo lift network"

Have heard the winter season pass will be $1700ish. So if you go for an overnighter, will the BC pass be valid the next day if you want to download

Well i did the Razorback out to Feathertop and back on Sat just gone.
I wont boor you all with more pics of the same, I'm sure you've all seen it before,

A lovely day for a hike, and I really enjoyed most of it, that last 2km's is a bit painful - especially when have a nasty blister on each foot :(
Probably a good idea i decided not to do the extra 4KM loop out to MUMC hut.

Might see about a Hotham to Falls, day trip next time!

Today I went to the top of Kozzie by the main range track and then back by the summit track. I noticed close to Charlottes Pass in the valley between the two tracks is what appears to be an old fireplace and chimney. Does anyone have any history on it?

I watched a couple of docos on the Marolt twins on Amazon Prime last week, interestingly there’s a bunch of made-for-TV climbing/mountaineering docos on there, lots of Everest/K2 stuff.

Old timer Chamonix friends agree with the article, they used to just let the place settle for 2-3 days after a storm, everyone did, now you’ve got Scandos in skittle-coloured gore tex literally running from the first tram straight in to the big lines.

One day I was skiing with a famous guide, we got to the top of a serious line after a big fall, there was a sort of a mexican standoff at the top of it with skiers each waiting for the others to go first, when we got there with Fanfan they sort of expected him to wave his magic wand at the face and declare it skiable. We turned around and skied something flat.

A few years ago I was at the top of Carruthers looking at steeps saying today is not the day.

Very enjoyable mooch around the KNP last week or so. It’s a special place, the north end so quiet the main range busyish even with ‘shooten’ closures. Those new tracks around CP, Perisher are going to be popular ....

And just to really gross you out... I've never seen a wild dog up here, but there's a dead one on the W Kiewa logging road. Phoned it in to agriculture/DELWP and they say there's been no baiting up there recently.

I pulled out the brush cutter at a few of the camp sites / picnic tables I passed so the grass isn't quite so thick for snakes to hide in.

NO WAY! I ran in to you and your wife at Derschkos last Friday morning. It was good to meet you both. I hope the rest of the trip went well. I spent the rest of my trip on the Grey Mare Range in head high bush. Good fun.

So you went to Grey Hill ?

No, not Grey Hill but not far.

I started at Round Mountain in the arvo and camped about 5 kms down the track. Next day I weaved my way on track and off track to Derschkos. Crossed Bogong Swamp near Ryries Parlour and made my way to Rocky Bogong Hill. Climbed on to the range and went southwest along the range past Grey Mare Bogong and Bulls Head Rock. I joined the old Strumbo trail (almost gone) then met with the Grey Mare trail and continued along it until Grey Mare Mountain and the Granites. I climbed both (not worth it). I turned around and followed the track back a few kms to a nice spot in some old snow gums for the night. The next day I walked the fire trails back to Round Mountain. I think I managed about 30kms in 4.5 hours the last day. Felt very speedy.

The scrub is getting worse and worse up on the range every year. The Old Strumbo FT between Grey Mare and Pretty Plain is well and truly cooked. Although, I decided that was the case a few years ago. I’ve been trying to find a nice way to PP from Ryries Parlour for a few years but I don’t think it exists. There used to be a bridle trail there.

Apparently these flannel flowers only flower rarely, like 70 years between. Chanced upon the popularity of the event and the hordes by randomly deciding to do the walk out to Taros along Narrowneck,

which is a bit of road bash but not uninteresting.
18 cars parked at the Ikara Head Track this arvo as I MTB rode by. F’n stupid. NP’s have put up a temporary sign. People trying to find the track wandering around lost on the FT.
I keep removing the huge cairns being constructed on the FT in the past few weeks, because prior to the fires and pink flannel flower proliferation no tourists gave a damn about this lovely unpublished area and if they can’t locate the track entrance without a flashing beacon then GAGF’d.
Fark the hashtag.

Nat parks are dealing with over 100 cars a day on narrowneck, just for the flowers. Apparently the flowers were being trampled in the urge to get perfect selfies. Several staff assigned to hang out as crowd control

And out the back of lithgow, I was working up on the cliff, and probably 20 cars hunting flowers in about 2 hours. Normally lucky to see 2 at that place.

Madness.

Yup, hashtag stupidity. Normally no one parked there at Ikara.
Not as bad as the selfie farktards posing in front of burnt homes last year!
