I managed a day trip from Munyang up to White's River hut and back today. The snow cover is pretty bl....dy good and after the next few days will be as good as ever IMO. You can currently ski from about a 100m past the power station. Skis off on the first creek crossing (concrete not good for ski base!) but otherwise, very nice. A surprising number of tourers out and about, mostly earnest young UNI club types. Munyang car park was full. (and for all my posts, assume apologies too those in lockdown)

Plenty of snow to explore around Nimmo Hill on the edge of Snowy Plains. A real bonus to ski terrain that is rarely snow covered. The other boon was avoiding the road chaos on the Kosciuszko road!

Excellent pics! Exquisite one or two - ie. the horizontal gum shot! (#6) - last one!

Just a note about BC snow conditions.

Last Thursday most of the time leaving Mt P and wandering to Guthega we were on hoar frost, up to 30 plus deep on the North arm of the Paralyser. So all this new snow has fallen on a good layer of hoar frost.

If you go BC in the next few days take a real good look, sniff, taste, feel of anything well loaded and steepish (more than 25deg), fair chance it may sluff or slide.

There was a chunk of short term instabiity after the falls early last week. Thurs/Fri was sunny and windy, the hoar frost is probably gone. But we have had a shed tonne of snow with a load of wind loading (the top of Link had accumulations of 50-100cm an hour for a while this afternoon). Meadow skiping is the order of the day fo this week until the return to warmer temps later in the week.

With all the the rain today the snowpack should stabilise faster than I expected.

Has anyone been out along the snowy mountains highway since the weekend? What’s the cover like? I’m guessing it’s decent at the moment. I’m thinking about a ski out to Tabletop on Saturday.
Thanks!
