No. They just know that I can communicate between them and their clients. Not sure that their english website is up yet. It is a bit confusing because there are 2 other english language websites that relate to them but from what I am being told they are not relevant to this years operation. But hey that could be wrong. I just know that I can arrange cat skiing for people.

Also I have been told by other people that in the past there is no reply to emails etc. I am trying to help these guys and prevent this sort of problem..

When are you going to have time to ski ??????
Between booking cat tours, running 2 lodges , transfers , restaurant , and back country tours (have I missed anything?) .
    I wouldn't want to do it .

LOL I have staff this year. And everything other than the lodges and restaurant is case of forwarding emails or just a phone call. The back country stuff is definitely not my gig.

But as you would know, being able to walk out the door nd clip in makes getting skiing time much easier. ;)

I can happily recommend Aki Kitamura at North Nagano Outdoor Sports (as mentioned in a previous post). I was lucky enough to spend some time with him (and Yu Sato) at Madarao this year. Great guy. Responsible for most of the recent development at Madarao so there is no one that knows that mountain better.

Finally got to upload the pic from my front door from the day it snowed. Bloody facebook would not play ball. Unfortunately most of the snow is gone now.

An update on the Myoko Big4 passes. They've gone from 'borderline' to 'totally not worth it'.

    38,000 for a 10 day pass, 4,600 for a day pass.

    Doesn't make sense does it.

Especially when it's no hassle getting a ticket each day at the resort of your choice after looking out the window in the morning.

If you had half hour long queues at the ticket office like Thredbo, it makes sense to buy in advance. But you don't. Cheaper and just as easy to buy day by day.

Do you need to swap these passes for lift tickets at each resort? In which case you don't even avoid going to the ticket office?

Madarao is so much easier than Mt Myoko (my Madarao place is still in Myoko-shi) Tonight we had 3 people from the neighbourhood association put them selves out for 3 hours to make sure we were happy and understood what joining wold cost and what we would get. They are so keen for us to be there. It is a refreshing experience compared to Akakura Onsen and all the nasty politics that go on.

What's the go with English ski lessons in Madarao this season, anything happening ? We couldn't find any for our kids last time we were there and that was after asking at both on mountain ski schools and Madarao Kogen Hotel.

Snowing in the village this morning. Just barely settling at this stage.

    Bit more over in Madarao

Yeah I need to talk to them about kids lessons. They arrived the other day and are busy setting up. They were part of the 3 hours spent talking to the locals the other day.

So no snow on the ground at Chalet Myoko. Just flakes floating around but not settling atm. But I am about to head to Madarao and after watching the video above I am just wondering how much snow there will be over there.

Madarao is more exposed on a north-westerly, and higher, so I reckon there will be more

So a little snow just settling at Akakura when I left. Lots of snow at Madarao when I arrived.

Every time we have an evening project meeting at Madarao it snows. So you should all be encouraging me to have more evening project meetings.

So we're locked in for flights to Tokyo on 8th Feb.

    3 x mid 30's blokes.

2 depart on the 17 Feb and I'm staying on till the 20th Feb.

    We're thinking Myoko & Madarao.

We don't want super cheap accomm (i.e. dorms) but don't want to spend much than say 12,000Y per night if we can help it.

Would you book accomm now, or wait until mid January?

Book now or soon if you can. Usually the Japanese book about 3 months or so in advance, so it would be a good time to get in now.

Don't know about other places but we're already super busy around then. If you can lock something suitable in I'd do it asap. If you want some ideas send me a PM.

Book now. There are more bookings in February than January which is a bit weird. For that price per person you should get something nice including dinner. Send me a PM if you are interested in either of my places - Chalet Myoko and Chalet Madarao.

Heard a rumour tonight that Lotte are pulling the pin completely as costs have escalated too far. Doubt very much it's true but asking around to confirm.

    Yes.
For the moment, I think we need to call it Arai to avoid confusion, until they come up with a permanent name, IMO.
The problem is, if you search "Lotte ski resort" you get S. Korea. Searching "Arai" gets you more useful info.

Yes, I think it's just gossip that's morphed into 'fact' amongst some locals. I've been unable to verify but will swing past on my next trip and talk to the workers (if they're still there...LOL)

Where did you get the pics from @Ramenman ?

Maybe if they toned down on some of that horrible, tacky, fake grandiosity that scars Japanese 'bubble resorts' everywhere, their costs wouldn't get so out of control....

Went past this afternoon and there's no sign of work stopping. In fact far more full on than last time I dropped in for a look. They even have security guards now vetting people on the way in.

You'll be pleased to know @Rabid K9 that they in fact hacking off a lot of the faux extremities and going with something more subtle.

That makes me very happy, if I wanted Papa Alberto's pizza, it wouldn't be in Asia....

Subtly, minimalism and sense of place went sadly missing during the Japanese buble'.

The view from my window tonight. My car is turning into a white lump.
Got to take one of the other cars for a service tomorrow. Winter tyres are at Madarao so even though it is 4wd it could be fun in the morning.

That's the building right behind us - unfortunately.

The owner is lovely chap (not) who has blocked the gutter and pumping all the water away just so that I can't use it for my snow clearing. He doesn't use the water for anything - just does it to, well, be a prick. Then when his blockage overflows it spills out onto the road and freezes as ice, that cars and people slip on.

I guess though he never wonders why I send lots of guests to all my other neighbours except him.

Yes, wife is nice and the real brains of the outfit. It's a pity, but that's how it goes.

We're pretty happy with the location. One of the main reasons we bought.
