Perhaps some of the guests could have a quiet chat to him.The ones that have tattoos of course and speak fluent Japanese!LOL If that doesnt work we bribe him with beer and sake.

Don't think I haven't considered it! LOL Might be our only hope. I've actually just gone out and had a blazing argument with him as he tried to justify doing it. Last season I was rather timid about it but just decided to go full guns blazing from the get go this year.

Details of a new bus service and timetable was delivered yesterday. Local Service details here. I am not sure if this replaces the previous service. In some ways it is better. In other ways it is worse. If it does replace the previous service, anyone staying in the lodges down the hill from Akakura Kanko is screwed if they are depending on the shuttle.

Since I think it is a bit rich to charge 500 yen for less than 1km, I provide daily shuttle to any of the local resorts for my guests. Also means you don't have to deal with a packed bus to get to Suginohara early and back late.

kind of expensive for a family of 5. 10,000 Yen to go To Sugi or Madarao from Akakura. When you can buy lift tickets for 2500 each - 2000 return for each person doesn't make sense. My memory of bus trip to Sugi was it was tediously slow & often packed.

Re the Mt. Myoko Shuttle - seems to be the same cost as last year? Just being organised, or help being organised, by a third party.

Yep, still is (and will be). I keep offering solutions and I keep being ignored.

Re the Madarao shuttle - it's fair value for single. Couple or more you just organise a taxi if your hotel won't shuttle you.

As explained on the link I posted last week
The Akakura Onsen – Tangram – Madarao Kogen – Iiyama Station bus service is not running for 2016/17 season. Please use the Akakura – Madarao / Madarao – Nozawa Onsen services.

Also now there's a direct Narita-Myoko bus service too.

The new Akakura to Suginohara bus schedule is a pain for us parents. The last bus of the morning leaves at 9:30 but the lessons at Myoko Snowsports (when we can ditch the tin lids for the day) don't start until 9:45!
Will have to find a taxi or kindly lodge owner to shuttle us :)

We found last year that if you had 4 in the taxi it was about same price as bus and much quicker. We missed getting on a bus because too crowded and the lady at the bus depot called a taxi. We still beat the bus after waiting 10 mins or so. After that we arranged the hotel to book a taxi the day before we travelled to another resort.

Pics today if I'm lucky. Spent most of yesterday sorting pumps and snow clearing equipment. Snowing today and more on the way, so more equipment ordered and in transit.

Sunday is looking big! Hope we get the gear by Saturday!

Well and truly out! Jetstar were flogging their packaged deals to Myoko this year too. I think 2016/2017 season will be a bumper one in terms of Australian visitors. Whether that's a positive or negative thing...?

My biggest fear is the hordes who come from Niseko trying to apply the same free for all gate mentality at Myoko. It just won't work as it is very different terrain and there will be incidents IMO.

I don't think tenjin will ever get bigger than what it is IMO. More a bc access point than a ski destination.

Greetings All. Hope the snow is coming down nicely in Myoko. We are getting excited now about our family trip - coming to Shiga for a week and then Myoko for another week from 29-3 Feb. We are two adults and two kids (9&12) and I have a couple of questions. What are my options for transport from Shiga to Myoko on a Sunday? I have priced up the Nagano Snow Shuttle and it comes in at 23,600 yen, or $275 AUD, which seems a lot for the bus. I am also after ski school and hire recommendations for the kids. We are staying in Akakura Kanko. Thank you.

Point 1. Ask your hotel to book you a taxi. Should be around the same cost.

Point 2. Myoko Snowsports. reservations@myokosnowsports.com Tell them Nic said to get in touch.

    Done!

    Hi all.
do you all recommend taxi to Sugi... we are 4ppl. vs crowded/slow bus 2000y ?

And if we do a day to Madaroa only 1 bus??? 8am departure 5pm return? long day for kids. Is it also taxi accessible or too far?
One last question, i see discount coupon for kanko separately ... its good value but i recall you then cant ski the Onsen part? is it worth getting skipass for Kanko alone???
Thanks all. See you next week.

    Same number? Do taxi

Yes, don't bother with Onsen side

Your hotel should be able to help with these. They should have discount tickets and/or coupons too if they're worth their salt.

for 4 people I would avoid busses and just get your accommodation to organise taxi's. The cost will be similar. Or better yet hire a car...especially if you have Madarao and Sugi on your radar.

Re the lift tickets it depends on whether you want to ski Onsen or not. Personally I am fine skipping it, as Kanko has the more interesting terrain, but it is a personal choice. Maybe start out with a combined pass and make a call on what you want the next day...

No, somebody else did...not me...not him...the culprit shall go unnamed. Unfortunately our car park, which we normally keep pretty clear is full with a double whammy of heavy snowfall and non-operating snowblower (see below). So he parked close-by and the person involved used his keys to park the car.
