Its more the winds and the high fuel load I would imagine. 30-55km/h Westerly for pretty much the entire state.

Change rolling through Melbourne now. City down to 18, 13 down in Geelong.

No rain in the city yet, all passing to the east

It's been raining up my end of the CBD!
It's been great watching the low dark clouds roll quickly across against the backdrop of the buildings. They're absolutely racing across from the SW.

Howling winds here in the NSW side of the mountains. BOM indicating Thredbo had a gust of 124 kms. Still quite sunny and mild. Bit of wind chill but not cold. Later maybe.

Useless observation time. At 11.45am, Sydney 32.7C, Melbourne 12.7C.

Massive 20C difference as the two are only just over 700km apart as the crow flies.

On the NSW RFS site, looks like two fires have flared up on the north west slopes (Tamworth/Armidale/Glen Innes region). Status is "being controlled"

Got down to 12.7 in Melbourne at noon. Warming back up though, now 15.4, I think we've seen the end of the rain now. Looks like 3-5mm across the metro area, the hills got more, as usual.

Not sure how I’d describe the winds here but destructive comes to mind.

No cool air but the wind is driving smaller branches from trees. Power is out. Looks like a tree over the lines closer to town. A few spits of wind driven rain.

Struggled in the wind and raised dust to get a decent pic....

Only got to 36 today in Gosford, 2 below the forecasted 38. Relatively comfortable for a hot day as Humidity was below 15% . Just spent and hour walking one of the kids to swim squad and barely raised a sweat.

It’s warm here on the Lee side and I reckon the winds stronger locally than in the resort if the BOM for PV is right. Had some remaining apples that the birds had not torn into however most of the netting is gone now.
