Which run do you think it is? Some will say Bourke St, some will say it’s the run you first have to hike.

For me, I fell in love when I saw a photo at age 14, and when I got to ski it years later it not only lived up to the hype, but blew it away. It is the one, the only, Vallee Blanche:

Bought this really good book a while ago, it has all the greats including VB.
Only Australian entry is Mary’s Slide.

VB is certainly a total experience - top to bottom. More than just a ski run.

Skiing down into Zermatt at the end of a Haute Route trip and 3 climbs from Vignette hut and seeing west face of the Matterhorn is pretty special.

and similarly although less famous the run from top of Ebnefluh (3962m) down to the Lötschental to Fafleralp (1700) was very special.

Especially when the top bit is perfect powder and it transitions to perfect corn as you go past the Matterhorn.

I'm not as well traveled as others so my experience is a little more limited, but for me its the Sella Ronda.......just for the scenery and atmosphere of the dolomites.

I reckon that’d just be survival, not a lot of joy except being able to claim you did it. One of our guides in Chile skied Everest (obviously not top to bottom, I think he said camp 4 to camp 2?) - survival skiing. Don’t fall, don’t die, don’t set off a slide.

Speaking of Chile, the majesty of The Andes would be my #1. Some epic lines that trip.

Nothing like a bit of back-country to get away from all those annoying crowds!

Given this is taken at the top of a ski lift I think backcountry isn’t quite the right word. Off piste for sure.

It's completely safe, every nice day a couple of thousand people go down it, and there are very few if any fatalities. But you've got 3 km of fresh air off to your left so if you don't like heights then it's a bit to cope with.

I should amend my initial post, it's completely safe if you are doing it with a qualified mountain guide in suitable conditions, who will definitely put you in a harness and on a rope, and may also put crampons on your boots.

If joe punter rode the cable car and just tried to walk down the outcome could be a little different.

and if he somehow managed to survive that, that would only be the start. Then it is negotiating the crevasses...

First time I did it was un-equipped. We were on the RHS of the ridge but Jerome was walking on the LHS so if one of us fell, he would jump the other way to counterbalance!

I rate the Val Bever as awesome but that's the thing, is this an on resort or off resort listing.

The run to the dam in Verbier, maybe backside of Mont Fort, a bit of Grand Tetons, a sniff of Big Sky, a little Toots, some Devils Causeway, a smidge of Kita, maybe even Leather Barrel in the corn

    happy skiing
    happy life

Some may see it as a pissing contest I suppose. Not me. I love seeing the wonderful places people have been, it ignites dreams to get my own butt to some of them. I see it as sharing a common passion.

But an individuals GOAT will be whatever it is for them. There was a time that Gareth’s “Friday Flat” would’ve been mine LOL

There's just not that many snowboarders in Europe.
Although I did the VB with 2 of em and it's fine just maybe occasional judicious planning for glide?

Back when I did it snowboarding wasn't even a thing. No reason why they can't do it though. Mostly it is matter of skiing a controlled line through the crevasses. A bit of traversing sure, but for the most part especially on the tourist route it is a cruisy downhill run.
