Might be time that people face reality on the next couple of weeks.

With little snow in Victoria and open season for Hotham and Falls Creek pass holders into Perisher. There is no other way to put it other than the Inn Is Full.

This week is already under full assault with early schoolies in full force, and next week is simply going to be hell on snow - with Interschools about to take over Perisher. This is not the olden days of just Nth NSW and Qld, but now includes many many Sydney schools and will be crazy crazy busy. Perisher will do its utmost to cope including night competitions and the like - but there is only so much snow and lifts to go around.

The prospect of more snow falls remain on the horizon at best and this will not be a repeat of 2018 - but rather 2017 and 2015 when Perisher was basically man made runs throughout much of July.

The takeway is simple - if you have not paid out a small/large fortune already for sometime in the next couple of weeks - then it might be best to think twice. Standing around with other people for extended periods only to get to the top of the hill and look down at a sea of humans who only only have limited abilities to stay out of your way is not to be taken lightly.

If you are already locked in - well enjoy the ride and smile smile smile.

    Perisher has a simple solution.
If anyone has over 10 days this season already on their Epic pass. They are unable to use it during school holidays in July.

A grim assessment, @rocketboy . I remember issuing a similar warning a couple of years back on another social media site and getting a right royal bollocking for being negative ;). I’ll be there with my boys the weekend after next, adding to the crowds. Maybe Thredbo would be better? :p

OMO. not the time to book a holiday, unless you are involved. In Thredbo, the locals (and me) will ski for the first one to two hours only. By 11 it is actually dangerous, like a beach landing.

Perhaps the inn could look at a more aggressive lift running strategy as it always seems fairly blase in regards to running lifts to disperse crowds.

Back in the day Guthega as a stand alone resort would be up and running by now.

The whole "on demand" running strategy appears to have infected the general overall lift opening attitude.

The runs are short and the lines long.

I’m coming this weekend to learn xc skiing. Will be my get out of the resort card hopefully. Then I’ll be back probably in August. Got a weekend in Thredbo booked.

I’m there on the 19th so I want short queues and empty slopes
I think Interschools is at Thredbo that weekend?

The word 'full' is not in the Perisher dictionary. Good luck and remember it only takes 10mins to skin up front wally.

    I canned our (pre-season speculative) bookings .
Going on a surf trip instead , plenty of waves around.
    Water still warm.....
See what's on offer later in the month or August.

That’s an option, however with so many people COMING DOWN... you’d be like a movable slalom gate, or park feature.

I go to Thredbo for 5 days in the Qld Show (Ekka) week - usually the second week of August. We ski Monday to Friday. I find that is about optimal time. It doesn't clash with any school holidays that I know of, the base had a chance to build and there's a good chance of getting winter (cold dry snow) conditions.

Having Sydney interschools at Thredbo will help for the last week of NSW/ACT school holidays. It was so much better when the ACT school holidays overlapped NSW, until NSW changed theirs to be the same as the ACT.

Surf forecast for the next week looks insane, 11/12 second intervals easterly groundswell offshore winds. I'm tossing up surfing instead of skiing this school holidays.

I was actually thinking of xc skiing for next year! I used to do quite a bit in high school but found it boring at the time. Think I would really enjoy it now. Given my ongoing knee issue, could be a good alternative on the side, not to mention avoiding the crowds!

I would love to get TBC up there on the meander on sunny days. I think she would enjoy it after an initial "falling about" period. She would enjoy your and chicski company.

Scotski and his lovely wife enjoy some XC as well.

I was originally going to head up to Perisher or Thredbo from Adelaide late July, combining with a trip to Canberra to see family. Decided that with a trip to Japan already booked in for next year I'd rather put my money towards that. That plus the extortionate cost for lift tickets here for non season pass holders.

Sounds like the Aussie snowfields aren't going to miss me...

Wow, that is some insane numbers for people who live along way from the mountains. Well done to Perisher for doing night racing, but won't that just mean they'll ski the day as well??

I had a rant about this last night.
I'd be really pissed off if I was a Guthega lodge member, accommodation provider or user having to drive each day around the Perisher to access a lift. Back in the day when it was it's own, punters would have at least been able to wiggle down Bloody Mary by now. Wonder if there is a Guthega social media outcry? Should be!!!

Last I heard they haven't the snow to satisfactorily build the traverses.
Best can manage is to skin up Norwegian & then Cow T , scoot across to Blue Cow.
Also spoke peeps are headed up this week to open ski centre so maybe a chance of the clubbies getting a look in for school hols.
At least maybe local traffic only on the T's and the ropes stay up at the Cow.
Tho the moment the "Freedom" chair turns will be feeding frenzy .

Genuine question. Is there enough snow at Guthega to open anything? With only 40cm natural on the ground at 1830m and no snow making over there?

The Pastafarian is banned (well AVO against him contacting any Thredbo employee), Rastafarian's are probably ok
