In the last 24 months or so there have been a lot of records broken through out Australia and in the Northern hemisphere . It is like watching a game of Simcity watching things go wrong but unfortunately this is not a sim.

On the drive to Myoko this year, I was speaking with a Japanese business man who pointed out that Tokyo was trialing out multi filter waste burning station though I only saw one in operation. The recycling system in Japan still has a long way to go.

Spring has really taken over here with nothing really to get excited about for the last 2 weeks. Maybe tomorrow but can't see anything on the horizon after that. Lucky I got such a good early season in this year.

Yep, end of the powder for the most part I reckon.

These temperatures are more like the same time in April rather than March.

Cherry blossoms are two weeks earlier than usual, and are out already in Tokyo.

From Aus it seems like someone flicked a switch from the beginning of March (apart from the 20 cm FB mentipned a few days ago.) So was the JMA on the money with their prediction of a warmer than normal season for Honshu or not?

JMA totally missed the prediction for an extra cold December. When they changed it, they were predicting a colder than average January..... I'll see if I can find the predictions from those periods, as I saved them somewhere.

Without actually plotting it, I'd say that recorded max daily temps this Jan and Feb were possibly lower than recent seasons. Which is one reason why, despite far fewer big Siberian storms, we had a deep snowpack this season. I felt it was a fantastic winter, colder, with a lot of very good powder in smaller doses.

    For January and February
    Average daily Max: -1C
    Average daily Min: -7C

    (Recorded at 800m)

March has been quiet warm though. Very warm.

Meanwhile one place west of Tokyo had more than 300mm overnight!!!

And a place in southern Fukushima Prefecture got 155mm in 3 hours.....

The pressure seems to have bottomed out at 976hPa!

Yesterday had rain, thunderstorms, extreme wind and then snow in the afternoon and evening right down to the valley floor. Looks like we could get some more snow this week too.
