Best snow I have ever had was top of Suginohara in Myoko. On average my experience has been better chance of blower in Hokkaido. Back on weather. Wind picking up in higashiyama can sense a change.
Puts hand up too.
I'll have to put my hand up and say the lightest i've skied in Japan was in Niseko, but that was after -15C max during the day and getting down to -22C overnight with 20odd cms falling.
Strong northerly winds and clear skies in Yokohama this morning...... Must be snowing on the central Japan resorts I think!!!!!!
Light rain all day yesterday in Myoko, before fog swept in, and then turned to snow around 8pm.
30cm in the driveway this morning and still coming down.
Wed or Thu next week looking dastardly at this stage, IMO. But Thu/Fri/Sat could be a meg-dump!!!!!
Tenjin at the moment
Looks about par.....
Snow coming down in Yuzawa right now. 35cm in the town overnight.
Expect a lot more at Kagura.
Honshu will get wiped out next week (as per sandys post)
Going to Hakuba this weekend for 7 nights, it should be ok then?
could see a 4 feet storm this time next week
so if I look at yr.no which gets mentioned on here as a reasonable indication, when it says under precipitation say 3.00mm what does that translate to in snow depth? I realise this has probably been explained before but once again for the slow ones please.
Puking in Niseko
Yuzawa (@ 340m) has copped 48cm since yesterday morning.
I reckon Kagura could be the place to be this weekend. We'll see what depth they report falling this morning since yesterday's report, but it could be big values.
GFS & NAVGEM show quite different scenarios for this low pressure trough.
GFS shows it tracking in through S. Korea, dragging more warm air, and more intense (more rain, with more snow later)
NAVGEM shows it tracking in through N. Korea, dragging colder air, and less intense (less rain, or perhaps just snow, but tapering off more quickly than GFS) NAVGEM also shows another trough tracking through Tokyo around Saturday, possibly bringing snow later.
Ok, 50cm at Kagura since yesterday's report of 30cm..... that's 80cm over a couple of days and still snowing over there. Might be worth my while heading over there on Sunday.
Around 70cms over 2 days here . Was on track to ski fresh all day today , when took wrong turn and did my calf (hope it's only calf) . End of an ordinary season ...unless it comes good in a couple of days ?
Damn, you're kidding
about 70cms in the last couple of days in Niseko.
with strong winds today. top lifts closed.
Have done this twice. If it is not to bad and the snow is worth it, with good intensive physio, you can be back out there pretty quickly.
Kagura reporting another 30-50cms overnight. Hilariously the base hasnt moved at all since this storm started!
Another 30 !!!!!
Tenjindaira 70cms overnight with a 480cm base! March is off the hook....
I dare say Hakkaisan also got a fair bit overnight..
Looks like Yuzawa got around 30cm since yesterday's report, so I'd say Kagura got another 50cm IMO.
50cms at hakkaisan according to facebook
Love the bloke warming up lucky bastard!
Sandy what's your latest opinion on snow falling across Honshu late this week? I have to drive and train it from Myoko to Osaka on thursday.
Thursday appears to be the rain day, snow on Friday. Perhaps a little snow on Sat, then clearing
Kagura reporting 40cm. Total of 120cm over 3 days.
30cms overnight at Niseko.
Winds are gusting really strong all morning, then easing off.
Even had a few patches of sun.
parts of rusutsu reporting 60cms - days like this, quitting work and chasing winter is a viable option.
This last 4 days is almost the the first time this winter that I can remember, that there was a consistent northerly along with the lake effect snow. Shows what a strange winter it's been.
Up to 30cm reported in Niigata and still snowing. You can see the northwest feed.
Hakkaisan calling 40cms over night Kagura only 20cm
Another 25-30cm at base of Kanko this morning. Steadily snowing since around 8pm last night. Light and dry with a crust underneath from yesterday's sun. Epic March!
40 and bluebird !!!!!
82cm snowfall in the last 7 days
97cm snowfall in March 2014
1134cm snowfall since the beginning of the season
Boring I know
5cms in Niseko, wot is that? It's annoy-snow.
You got that right.
Dust on honshu
A bit stormy in central Japan today, and very wet in places....
180mm of rain at on Izu peninsular....
Nozawa Onsen has gotten away with only 4.5mm of rain, and around 10mm at Myko. Hakuba has had worse with around 15mm... but looks to be snowing now though.
Yuzawa looks like it's mostly missed the rain so far.
Next week looks interesting
Sigh, I have to get to my front door next week. Last time I was only away for 3 nights and it took over half an hour to get the short distance from the road to my front door.
It's all over now. They are forecasting an outbreak of cherry blossoms.
(what country, other than Japan, would make a "Tree forecast").
Forecasts have been out since Feb.
