Been good to us here. 25-30 cms up on the hill over night and has been snowing all morning. Getting a bit windy here now.

20cm+ in Inawarshiro and kinda mizzly fog and -3C through the day. Snowing again now.

Word is that there is so much snow in this area they have nowhere left to put anything else that falls. The guys are hoping not much extra falls tonight or they are going to have serious issues getting out to the lifts tomorrow.

Apologies for hijack, but at least I know sandy will see this.

Sandy - been in Val D'Isere last week? I saw darth vadar skiing. What topped it off was the 2 storm troopers skiing behind him like bodyguards. Was tres cool. :nerd:

I've often wondered if it's worthwhile using the Force to produce fresh powder right in front of where I'm skiing as Darth Vader...... ;)
Puts a whole new angle on "weather"!! :D

Still on track to produce rain every 3-5 days.... however, looks like they will be around half a day earlier for the coming week:
Late Tue into Wed, Late Sat into Sun.

Personally, I would prefer at least if the pattern was late Sun into Mon, and late Thu into Fri..... that way, it misses the weekend ( ;) )

Interesting to see the cumulative numbers for this year (at top) compared to last years (at the bottom).

Woh spring has kicked in hard, fast and early this year, gotta feel sorry all the people who came end of Feb or start of March hoping for snow. Looks like a solid dump after more rain on Monday night though. Weird season this one.

Yeah its a shame, with that massive base it would have been nice to get a longer season.

can only imagine how strong the sun would be in march, crust layers must be crazy when it does cool down enough to snow

It's actually rained every 3-4 days, followed by some snow, then clear and warm temps. Not enough snow to replace lost snow however.

So that's around 2 days of rain a week.

Winter hasn't ended further north on Honshu where it has been that touch colder and still got the moisture. Skied untouched lines and bottomless (no crunch) since Monday with two rather deep days in there. Looks like mad snow coming Tues-Thurs also?

Mid-Honshu hasnt been so lucky. Rain in Fukushima and Yamagata most of last and this week, with the odd day of a foot of fresh thrown in. Will report on this weekend's conditions tomorrow night.

    :D

    Pattern lately:
    Sat: Sunny and warm
Sun: rain, turning to snow later
    Mon: snow showers clearing
    Tue: Clear
Wed: clear at first, rain later
Thu: Rain turning to heavy snow
    Fri: snow clearing to clear
    Sat: sunny and warm

During those warm/rainy periods, freeze levels variously between about 1200-1600m.

This is in line with TJ's photos.

This is not necessarily typical spring patterns, but what we've had lately is rain developing over southern China, tracking across Tokyo/central Japan, dragging warm air in on the eastern flank. While this sort of pattern can happen during Jan/Feb these ones have been happening regularly (every 3-4 days) for the last 2.5 weeks. i.e. 5 systems

Yep, looks like rain until Tue morning down to about 1600m, then snow above 400m right through to Sat morning. (in central Japan)

I'll be heading to Shiga Kogen next weekend, which probably got wet snow rather than rain this weekend.

Sounds like a perfect end to my pow filled season. Didn't get to do the hiking I wanted but hey I'll take easy lift accessed pow in March with no-one around :D

As a side note - this forecast is ridiculous. http://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/TengendaiKogen/6day/mid
They will need to dig out every chair if that happens (or they get more than snow-forecast model which seems to happen regularly...although they did update their model?)

Pouring rain here in Niseko, big winds as well :( Hopefully turns to snow and the winds abate so we can get some riding in this afternoon. Tomorrow should be fantastic although the wind is looking like it will crash the party at least in the morning. Shame because we have to leave tomorrow evening so knowing my luck everything will be on wind hold until the afternoon!

Moderate snow falls most of the afternoon in Niseko, 10cm or so thus far.

Strong winds tomorrow as the Low traverses Hokkaido so unlikely to see much open on the mountain. Its our last day here though so going to have to earn some turns I dare say.

Maybe 20-25cm overnight here in Myoko and another 30cm fell throughout day and still coming down nicely. Was no wind all day but a few gusts started blowing just as lifts were closing. Hopefully it stays away and tomorrow should be epic

BTW, BBC World has a snow report every Thursday, and they only report the snow at Niseko. However, then they show a map of Japan with the (seemingly) major and best know resorts on it, which are:
    - Niseko
    - Shiga Kogen
    - Alts Bandai

    LOL

I dare say that most of the BBC World viewers think there are probably on 3 ski resorts in Japan!!!!! ROFL

Is that the resorts that fit on the map and make it look neat so they chose them?
