More snow at Myoko this morning. Lay in bed this morning listening to the snow sliding of the roof. Such a great sound.

Snow is pushing in around northern Nagano/Niigata this morning, in the last 5 hours.

    Last 5 hours:
    Hakuba weather station: 19cm
    Otari: 13cm
    Nozawa: 7cm
    Sekiyama: 8cm
Expect higher totals up on the resorts.

It's quite variable.... but that strong westerly is pushing a lot of snow over the peaks behind Hakuba, and onto the slopes!!

Okay so it was not really snowing today here at Myoko but now it is puking. And the snow flakes are huge - size of a 50 cent coin. Leads me to ask what makes snowflakes big?

Warm temps generally mean big flakes

Because the temps are warm the snow is wet which allows multiple flakes to stick together. As they fall and collide with each other they become uber snow flakes ;)

Yeah it is definitely getting warm here in Myoko. There is still an enormous amount of snow though.

Looks like some winter conditions monday-wednesday http://www.mountainwatch.com/snow-forecasts/Japan/Hakuba I actually get there on wednesday so you can blame it on me.

Ironically it looks like bad timing, I'm assuming every south facing aspect will turn to wet cement and avalanche once the sun comes out on Thursday, and take days to turn back into good spring snow.

Well that looks like a wrap for anything decent down low. What a magic season. Spring skiing officially starts now and will continue into May. Time to put the powder board into hibernation. It's been a good 3.5 months.
