Good thing is, the siberian belt of high pressure looks solid
This coming Saturday looks just like a stock standard Tokyo low pressure trough. Last weekend's was caused by a huge north/south elongated high, with a big fetch well to the south, on the western flank.
Since 7am on JMA:
Nozawa Onsen +41cm (Finally hits pay dirt)
Hakuba +11cm (in the valley)
Kutchan about even
Still snowing (although lighter) at myoko
Is Sunday still looking okay for snow (Myoko)? I'm pretty resigned to writing off Saturday for skiing but really don't want to wake up to rain Sunday morning
Images like this make me cry a little on the inside. Seki Onsen cleaning up again.
Can someone please ban @Kimski if she keeps swearing!!!!
Stop talking about it woman. Otherwise it is sure to happen!
You'll prob wake up to rain snow mix in myoko sunday morning.
freezing level will be halfway up the hill.
will be soggy.
I still had a good trip to noz with a couple of on piste pow days last week despite low tide but late feb early March looking the goods this year - Donza next season tell me what your window is and I'll align
Look how much snow has just fallen! The forecast for next week is good. I have only one week and I am NOT worried (sorry for off topic Sandy)
Sorry Sara. I need to chill, don't I
Freeze level will be 50m by 3am Sunday morning.....
Looks higher to me.
Sunny morning on Honshu.
-14 at Hakuba.
I recognise that road!
Not from the post office towards Echoland?
Stay on topic.
Nah... thats looking towards Iwatake with Happo on left.
Cold all over Japan this morning.
People need to be safe out there.
Still snowing in Tohoku. It really hasnt stopped snowing since the monsoon cleared out in the wee hours of Monday morning.
Watched the sunrise from the hill this morning, stunning
9am JST, Sunday 21st Feb:
522 line runs through Myoko. i.e. freeze level 0m, strong northerly means precip = snow.
Yeah , I've found these easterly low sliders take a bit longer to kick on in Myoko.
9am IMO will be a wintery mix at Myoko...
and solid snow at Hakuba.
of course thats going to improve every hour.
where is his snorkel?
Beautiful day at Hikkaisan.
Getting warm now though.
the sun would have munched it quick smart
Spring is here
Was great this morn, knee deep and dry.
Trees are looking snow fast.
Now it's slop.
Great day to be cruising around though.
It's a bit hard to see in this picture but the pine trees here at Hakkaisan have flowers out.
That must be really annoying
its 2-3 weeks early to be seeing buds and and obvious Spring conditions isn't it?
Snow got sun effected super quick today
Plum blossoms are already out in Tokyo, normally early March IIRC.
Still plenty of cold weather left.
charts look mint.
I've seen buds appearing early some seasons.
Yeah buds were in full bloom mid feb 2011.
We got to Hakuba at 16th Feb and it was around 11 degrees in the valley... day after day....I reckon a week of those temps
was a false spring...
got super snowy then the Earthquake obviously happened .
Care to elaborate on upcoming snow. Amounts/levels? Please.
Later.... Still at work..
I was in Hakuba Feb 11 as well. Was super warm.

Weather conditions: Bluebird
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Another beautiful sunny day in Hakuba. There hasn't been a cloud in the sky the last couple of days, and temperatures were up past 17 degrees (!) in the neighbouring city of Omachi, but we still saw overnight lows here in the village of -6 degrees. Current temps are 9 degrees at 760m, 1.2 degrees at 1400m, 2.6 degrees at 2080m (top weather station receives sun earlier than the 1400m station).
No real wind today, very light Southerlies only. Same conditions as the last few days: clean groomers in the AM, turning to spring-like conditions in the sun and icing over later in the day in the shade.
Today looks to be another clear sky day with more of the same early tomorrow and possible clouds rolling in which could bring some light precipitation and overcast through Friday. Saturday looks to be clear with possible light snow Sunday.
Stay on topic
I keel you
