Snowed virtually all day till now at shiga. Surprised how good the groomed runs were after heavy rain first half of last night! Had a great days skiing, some patches icy but more than enough good snow runs to compensate. Skied 7 days here for 6 1/2 fantastic ski days, one powder day on runs, two sunny and three groomed corduroy if that makes sense. Yesterday afternoon the only ordinary time, warm and rain.
Love Shiga Kogen, suits us groom run intermediates.cannot wait to return next year.

Forecast for Honshu (Shiga) for coming week? At Shiga from 26th to the 5th and hoping for at least one dump.

Reading this thread, seems like Japan has not been having that good a season this year......Is this the consensus?

I would be seriously f%^Yêd off If I went all the way to Japan and got rain

Imagine if you went all the way to Canada or Europe and got rain (which they do get). That's even further to travel and more expensive !

    Weather, what you gonna do.

This is true. I guess the expectation from the online and social media coverage is that Japan offers endless amounts of pow, all the time. Little do they (the unsuspecting punter) know the reality of the situation (aka you're in the mountains, the weather changes at the drop of a hat).

Yeah I remember the TV adds growing up that said smoking was good for my health as well, if you don't do your own research in this world and just believe the crap in the media then you deserve everything you get or don't get lol.

Had it all last week. Got in on the Monday morning after the rain, half the lifts were closed due to ice, next day all was open though still a little icy then Tuesday night it dumped and Wednesday was powder day, Thursday was fantastic as well. Friday I headed off and then Saturday it rained again.

Had it all the week but unlike Mt Buller I had visibility :)

It's all a bit of a gamble which for me paid off for the short stay I had. The longer you stay, the better the odds.

Dark lord... Thoughts on snowfall Tuesday/Night Wednesday in Myoko area. NW winds...although not overly strong?

If the NW is not that strong, Myoko is the place to be

I see low pressure over Hokkaido from this morning in to tonight. Looks like dumpage to me.Should be good for Honshu too.

I know. Oh well next time I see snow Now will be at Island bend and Tate;)

Anyway we just drove from Yuzawa to Tokyo, it's amazing as soon as you get on the eastern side of the ranges it stops snowing and comes out sunny.

I have to go through my photos but I have some awesome photos of my base and looking west and seeing the lake effect cloud disappear. I had a really good photo somewhere of that really warm day 2 weekends ago, you could see lake effect cloud, then a little gap, then pacific cloud. It was really cool.

Is worth sticking a pic in today from Niigata/Myoko.
Been a full on mixed bag this trip over the last few weeks travelling around Nagano/Niigata, but looks like finishing of with a bang with 5 days to go................

I'd post a photo too but zimbo took one for the team to get the stick out. Light snow still in Myoko. Hopefully enough overnight to reset but small flakes don't appear to be adding up just yet

Looks to have been a good night in Niseko and still snowing hard. Today into tonight should be sweet for Hokkaido with the low presure system deepening just north of the island.

Was 30cm on my car at 7am yesterday. Was above boot deep at the bottom of Akakan. At the top, and around the black run, it was a bit below knee deep.
I'd say 45cm as a minimum up the top. Came back to my car at 1:30pm, and there was another 10cm on it

Was not more than 55cm anywhere.

Exactly my point, froth measuring lol.
70cm in spots will measure 40cm on a proper snow measuring stick.

Anybody who says 'x cms in spots' is not to be trusted. It's a bit like the perisher mid station powerade measuring stick.
