I don't know about today, but yesterday, he reported 41cm at the bottom of Akakan, and that was about right. It was a bit under boot deep in the car park, and when you stepped off the carpark onto the slope, it was deeper.

The slope of the night in the snow 50 cm or more fear of avalanche.
For this reason, the open in front of the other normal check to avalanche check, ski cut required for the first jansz drift the commencement of 30 to 60 minutes late.
The second pair is estimated annual.

    FYI.
We got more than 50cm overnight.
We need to ski cut lift one before it opens.. (small lift).
we need a bit more time to assess lift two
cause the chance of avie is high.

Looks like another nice burst of snow Mon/Tue in central Japan.
Maybe wet the following Saturday, and frozen base Sunday.

This is a pic from my house looking at the back side of Nozawa. It is a typical south west system, it forms about the peaks and will snow up high but be basically useless down low, or even rain down low like it is now.
90%of the snow this season has come from systems like this rather than the north west flow which moves in from the left of pic all the way to ground level and dumps enormous amounts of snow, this is why this season has been so poor in the resorts for all but the highest elevations.

The valley floor here in Iiyama has not even maintained a snow pack this season where as last season it was around 2m deep

Snowing hard now on the eastern side of the mountains, so the lake effect is really penetrating through. Everywhere should be nuts today.

I'm sorry for the people who have been doing 3 day ski trip(or any other short ski trip) in Niseko since yesterday. It was whiteout conditions yesterday and it's today too. In such conditions, skiable area is very limited.

BG made the sacrifice to go and live over there. There's plenty of 'bad' to go with the awesome goodness that comes with living in Japan, so for every day like this he should be out there smashing it. I would be madder if he wasnt out there taking advantage of it.

You just have to suck that up, and have a positive spin on it. Unhappy people will find something to be unhappy about.
There are LOADS of positives to outweigh the negatives.....

Meanwhile, overnight(from yesterday morning), according to JMA:
Sekiyama +42cm (I'd expect another 10-15cm up on Myoko)
Yuzawa +34cm (I'd expect another 15-20cm up on Kagura & Hakkaisan)
    Nozawa Onsen +46cm
Otari +44 (I'd expect another 10-15cm up on Cortina)
    Hakuba (no reading)

Last day for us today, heading home tomorrow. Had pretty much all the conditions you can have over the last 3 weeks in Nagano / Niigata. Mild bluebird spring conditions, then rain, then snow, then big dump of snow, then bluebird, then rain, then snow, then another big dump, then bluebird, then final big dump. I think that was the order............ha ha. Had a great time - thanks Japan.

Ojisan-san lives in Kansai?. I've been to many tropical countries, such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, etc and I've been to Dubai and Morocco too. Amazingly, I felt Tokyo's August was the worst except Dubai. I'm not weather / climate expert, but I felt Okinawa was much cooler than Tokyo in AugustROFL.

Nup... I live in Sydney & Sydney summers are stinking IMO.
My wives family is from Kansai, which is why I spend a fair bit of time down that way.
I have only been to Japan in Jan/Feb, and have traveled each year (but last year) for over 10 years.
