The weather is the wrong direction for Niseko
Ahhh, so rusutsu tomorrow or Thursday?
Puking in hakuba
right on time
In the valley. Right now
Hakuba this morning.
It's been puking today. Proper puking. The tap is on, refill for days, type puking.
Looking forward to rusutsu tomorrow if they are getting more than here!
Just hope the visibility is better than today! Have only been there once and we had a guide!
Still dark here , woke to the sound of snow falling off the roof around 20cm I reckon .
Mid winter mode
Woke up to 20+cm at Shiga prince east this morn. Only to see these guys pop out 15mins later and ruin all the fun!
It's been puking in niseko for an hour. Settling on the road, big fat flakes that are floating up as well as down!
Today, It has snowed a lot in Tohoku as well. Even the downtown of Morioka city(only 150m asl) had 20cm snow, and ski resorts such as Appi had 40 - 50cm.
So Geto probably received double that? Snow magnet!!
So as an aside, don't think rusutsu had any more snow than here o ver the last few days.
But the good news is the mountain has been reset. (Ha no relation to my thread title)
Backcountry in mint condition atm
Great to see some more pow on Honshu. End of the weekend looks really warm though, double digit temps with a big high pressure system smack bang over the mainland. Hello spring!
Its shithouse in furano. Hopefully the big boy mountains are a bit better.
Magic day in Hokkaido
Tokachidake onsen in far better condition than elsewhere but i dont think we will see snow again... its pretty damn warm.
Two seasons in a row.
Its spring, everything has its season. Ski's packed away and shop ready for bikes. 12 degrees and rain predicted for tomorrow here in Furano. Planning some road riding around Tokachi plain on the weekend.
Hey all - just arrived in Japan for a three year stint and looking forward to getting into it. Looking at making a booking for 4-10 January next year somewhere, and I guess Niseko is probably the go-to for reliability at that time of year, but any views on whether a Tohoku resort might also reliably have good cover (and possibly some fresh powder) then? I was thinking about Zao perhaps?
Where do you live?
In Tokyo I'm afraid Sandy...
Nothing wrong with that.... I live in Yokohama
Where abouts in Tokyo ?
I'm in Minato-ku...
There's still time to go to the snow this season.....
Next weekend looks like getting some reasonable snow in central Japan. from around 29th/30th/31st.
Itoigawa 25.4 deg today...wow
Darn, its snowing again! 0 degree and currently snowing heavily in Furano, about 200 asl.
Turned to rain overnight. No accumulation and the melt continues.
Ended up at 26.0 degrees there!!
Today, 14.4 degrees at 1:50am, now 6.5 degrees at 1:20pm....
23.9 degrees in Tokyo today, and colder temperatures pushing from the NW. A top of 12 degrees forecast tomorrow.
Colder around Friday next week.
One of my man cubs is on the way home via Kansai...it was most definitely spring in Hirafu when he left this morning.
However the forecast is suggesting there’s still dribs and drabs on the way..
Sneaky 10cm overnight !!!!
-7.9 degrees in Urabandai Highland at 800m above sea level(Fukushima Pref) this morning and it's snowing nicely now.
It seems it's snowing very hard in Niseko are now, and inland Hokkiado was -19 degrees this morning(JMA say so)!
Went to ski to Mt Norikura yesterday and it was pretty cold. No fresh snow but groomers were in good condition, some solid ice moguls for the masochists too. Morning there was a huge crowd of people heading to climb and ski down the mountain itself(3000m volcanoe) in the parking lot it seemed there were more people with touring skis and ice axes then usual customers.
C'mon Sandy. Lift your game. You're a day out Looks like more snow from tomorrow night for a few days. Early yesterday morning delivered. Interesting that it was snowing up high on resort with a town temp of +6 degrees at 2am. About 20cms of heavy density snow which was fun to ride. Dried out a bit this morning with cold temps overnight but good riding still. No one about so similar lines dropped as the vid from yesterday.
This was filmed at Zao yesterday(March 31st). It has snowed nicely at some ski resorts in Fukushima and Yamagata since yesterday. + 22cm since yesterday according to a JMA's weather station at 900m above sea level in Fukushima prefecture.
60-70 cms I reckon over the last couple of days here in Hakuba. More due tonight. Snowing lightly in Echoland now.
No lift lines and fresh tracks every run. Not bragging
I thought I got lucky in March.
This was filmed at Hakuba Goryu yesterday. Considering it's April, the snow condition is very good!
They really are a bunch of muppets at snowjapan. I'm guessing his measuring stick is outside the train station.
The reporter is pretty upfront about the observation measurement being low down in the village level.
Went to Hakuba 47 today, probably 10cm or so from last night. Super nice.. was coming down pretty good when I had to leave.
Looking at Windy might be another dump on Friday night. This is pretty awesome
over a meter of snow up top of the resorts over the last 4 days with a full reset overnight. Still coming down in the village too but is meant to clear up later. It's been good
Some Honshu villages have set new April's 24 hour snowfall records. Fujiwara (Minakami area in Gunma Pref), Tadami in Fukushima Pref had 50cm snowfall within 24 hours and it's new April records for them. I assume Oku Tadami ski resort is not happy now. I mean, the ski resort is closed during mid winter because it's too snowy and roads are closed. It opened on April 1st, then soon closed due to heavy snow.
This is the snowfall of 24 hours (from yesterday morning to this morning). Orange colored spots are more than 50cm. 只見 = Tadami (Fukushima). 藤原 = Fujiwara (Minakami area in Gunma). 野沢温泉 = Nozawa Onsen = 35cm. It's the snowfall at the base villages. Ski slopes had more.
Good late March - early April isn't enough to make up for bad mid season, but this was filmed at Nekoma (Fukushima) yesterday(April 3rd)
There is more fresh snow now then when I was in Nozawa first week of February! Only had 1 powder day in 7 days staying there! Has kinda put me off Honshu now and will probably look to Hokkaido next time.
Second week of Feb on Honshu was fantastic, cant judge a place based on 1 week in 1 season...
I know, but I can only afford to go once every 3 or 4 years so I want a better chance of powder days.
