Bit tough meat those big stags.

The doe are better eating.

Venison was a thing in NZ in the 80s. Crazy boom industry. We used to eat it regularly.
Had some amazing Venison Minute Steaks from the Venison Farm in Margaret River a few weeks ago. So good!

Not sure I’d ever do roadkill, even if I hit it. But my butchering skills are lacking.

I've only had the tools with me to harvest suitably fresh roadkill twice. Sadly I've had to dispatch maimed natives with improvised tools plenty of times.

Depends what makes you depressed I guess.

I loathe and detest seeing good cattle and cropping country going to waste as horse studs. Tax dodges for the truly rich.
The country I remember from my childhood that is now mines. There were many school holidays where we visited my great uncle at Ravensworth. They lost a lot of land to Lake Liddell. And now I am wondering what will happen to that when Liddell is decommissioned. It never became the great tourist attraction etc it was promoted as becoming.

Working north of Broadarrow and travelling out from Kalgoorlie we'd see all the previous nights fresh road kill. Coming home one avo there was a group of indigenous people from further out bush having a roadside bbq on a fresh kill.
My brother's misso is Chinese, grew up in a different world, brought home and cooked a swamp hen she'd hit, no wastage.
Working out of Moree and travelling out towards Narrabri one morning a roadtrain had cleaned up half a dozen sheep, only a couple of mangled carcases remained on the way home, cheap dog meat.
Mate said he tried echidna, with good report, I'd try most things but draw the line at wombat, even the crows don't fancy them much.

For the locals can anyone recommend a cafe or other place in Jindabyne to sit and do some work during the day on the weekend, ideally with powerpoint to charge laptop?

Can anyone recommend one of the Subaru specialists around here ? Daughter and son in law arrived in their XV with several warning lights on since Lake George. Their guy in Sydney says it’s still drivable but needs to be scanned Thanks in advance

Andrew at Kosciuszko Automotive on the corner of the Alpine way is probably the best Subaru guy I know. He races Subaru’s. He also keeps lots of spares in stock.
I would go there.

More welcoming vibe than most of the eateries in Jindabyne.
really ? I live in the area and i havent found that to be an issue . I dont really go out in the ski season though when things are hectic though. I know alot of businesses in the area are really struggling with lack of staff and furloughing of staff with colds ,flus and covid which is making it difficult for staff and businesses which are largely small family owned entities (particularly when confronted by rude and impatient customers )

If Andrew isn't available, I can scan it and let you know for sure exactly what error codes have been set.

NRMA vans have scanners that should be able to read and reset engine codes. Write them down though for later diagnostics.

And council have the right to profit from leasing space down to the 80% line. And f you if the space you leased is underwater. You still have to pay.

There isn't a single eatery with comfortable chairs and a pleasant atmosphere. I'm talking pre-plague and out of winter. The closest thing is one of the pubs or the bowlo.

Yes there is, but I'm keeping to myself. The bowlo? Really? You need to get out more.
